I'm getting some home projects done while on my staycation. In the process of doing one of said projects, I opened a cabinet that I don't open that often (obviously for at least a year) and found an unopened shipment of Caribou Coffee in the cabinet. How the hell it got there, I'll never know. At any rate, I opened the box and there are two unopened bags of decaf coffee that I purchase from them on a regular basis. The invoice is dated 7/22/2022. Do y'all think this coffee is still good? I don't think it would "spoil", seeing how it was literally in a cool, dry place inside a dark cabinet for over a year. It's "Paper Filter" grind for brewing in my Mr. Coffee...This message has been edited. Last edited by: erj_pilot, "If you’re a leader, you lead the way. Still good, as far as I'm concerned. But then, I'm one who has no problem drinking a day-old coffee. Q

It'll be stale. Very stale. But, whether that matters to your palate or not only you know. Dollars to donuts I'd open a bag, take a sniff, think "Yup. Stale," and toss 'em both. If it was sealed it is OK to drink. Is it ground or whole bean? Whole bean keeps fresh flavor longer. Your best bet is to brew a pot and taste it. It probably lost some of its flavor notes, but may be acceptable to you, especially if you are a cream and sugar guy. If you don't like it you can dump it.

I'm in for the karma if you decide you don't like it. Year-old Caribou would be an upgrade from some of the stuff I have in my cabinets. "The Truth, when first uttered, is always considered heresy."

If you were brewing for espresso it would be an absolute lost cause. For pour over it may be fine. Make a pot and if it is acceptable, enjoy. The “POLICE" Their job Is To Save Your Ass, Not Kiss It The muzzle end of a .45 pretty much says "go away" in any language - Clint Smith

It will have lost some flavor because there is still air space in the bag, but should still be drinkable. But it's still decaf. (Decaf coffee, to me, is an oxymoron. It defeats the purpose.)

Caribou makes some pretty good brews, but I have never tried the Decaf. Take a chance, brew some of it up.

Both are "Paper Filter" grind for brewing in my Mr. Coffee. Thanks for the input. I'm a "no sugar, cream only" in my coffee kinda guy, so I might taste a difference, but doubt it. I'll give it a go and see what happens. I'm STILL puzzled as to how the UPS box got in that cabinet... "If you’re a leader, you lead the way. This. It won't be "spoiled" in the sense of making you sick... It just won't taste as good as fresh coffee. (Preground coffee that's over a year old may not taste much like coffee at all.) Whether it's still worth drinking is up to your personal taste.

It will not be spoiled if that is what you mean by "good" but know that optimum flavor comes within 1-2 weeks of the roasting date or less.

I've got some 15-20 year old teas in the cabinet if anyone is interested. Not for long, though.
