AglifterThoughts on customer lists?
So, we have the scary from Square, of the phone numbers, and emails, of every customer - and I don't want to use that/want to use it to send a message to all of them, reminding them that square does such things.
I'd like some way for our retail customers to be told about new flavors/reminded to submit quart orders, provided they opt in, and which will not sell their information to other people.
Any suggestions?

sigmonkeyOne way is to dump from the Square data to spreadsheet, CVS (Comma Separated Value) file then use a mass mailer app that does not CC/BCC (to prevent harvesting multiple email addresses from mail header).
That way, you can target individuals specific information, and use that info from the CVS so you are not spamming anyone with un-related email.
Many mass mailer apps will facilitate "OPT IN", and simply state that the initial mail out is a "one time" and then do not mail them again unless thay reply with "OPT IN", and then also use a "OPT OUT/UNSUBSCRIBE" feature in any future emails to those that OPT IN.

AeteoclesNever, ever, send a unsolicited text without maintaining your own documentation of the OPT IN, preferably a DOUBLE opt-in.
Fines under the Telephone Consumer Protection Act (TCPA) are heavy.
Rules for when a text can be sent are different from when phone calls can be made or emails can be sent. Text messages, under the law, are presumed to be sent to a cellular phone and received at the subscribers cost. Unlike receiving a phone call on a land line, text messages are presumed to cost the recipient money to receive and therefore must never be unsolicited. You have to ensure that the recipient has opted in specifically to receive the text message and maintain that record.
I know you didn't ask about texts messaging, but I felt that the warning should be out there.

steve495I'm assuming you're using this feature from Square -
https://squareup.com/help/us/e...ail-collection-toolsIn that case, the customers
are opting in to either email, text or both from YOUR company. Square is the tool you're using to collect the information. Nothing more.
If you do not want to use the services Square provides to market to customers -
https://squareup.com/us/en/customer-engagement - you may be able to export the data from their application and move it over to Mailchimp or Constant Contact (as examples) and then send out the marketing communications from there.
But then you have to manage it and routinely pull the Square data and import into the mass mailing application. I do this for a couple of clients who have point of sale systems that are not tied into marketing engagement solutions.
My suggestion would be to stick with Square's customer engagement system as you're already "paying" for it by using their system. My guess is you should be able to properly configure any communications sent to customers so they come from YOUR email address and are not branded with Square all over the place. They may even be able to provide really good targeted marketing "groups" based on past purchases.
Again, I'd move forward with confidence using Square since the customers must have opted in when making their purchase from you.
