Buc-ees food review video by Max the Meat Guy
Wow I had no idea. We stopped at the Buc-ees in Sevierville last summer but didn't try any of their food other than the Beaver nuggets which I found very tasty. Anyhow just came across this food review by Max the meat guy which I found enlightening. His crew found some things they did not like but in general they had a high opinion of the foods sold in Buc-ees. We already have a cabin booked for another trip to Gatlinburg and will definitely stop by Buc-ees to try some of their foods. I have the 3 meat sandwhich, sliced beef brisket, Carolina pulled pork, sausage on a stick, and beef sub at the top of my list. We also LOVE Benett's Pit BBQ in the area; So much good food.

Use the second video if you just want to see the ratings at the end of it.

I like a one stop, stop, fuel, food, a potty break.

The 1st Buc-ee’s is coming to Wisconsin, when open I’ll visit. Right now Kwik-Trip fills the void.

I have had their brisket sandwich and their 3-meat sandwich. They are pretty awesome and beat just about any fast food chain by a lot, except Chick Fil-A and In-N-Out (off the top of my head).

The BBQ sandwich is fairly good but pricey. Their brisket tacos are also good but pricey (as is everything). I go there for 2 reasons, ethanol free gas and clean restrooms.

Their breakfast tacos are pretty good too.

For years, I only knew the one in Giddings, TX, which is just an exceptionally clean gas station.

Wasn't until I visited the ones in Madisonville & Katy that I got the full experience

You summed up the Gidding”s one perfectly! Bastrop one is excellent, busy as always.

Is the Giddings store the original one?

I’ve had the brisket sandwich — wonderful! Also the roasted nuts, Beaver Nuggets, and jerky (they have like 15 different varieties). Cleanest restrooms anywhere, and LOTS of them. Yes, the food and everything is a little pricey, but it’s worth it for the very clean and plentiful restrooms.

They’re opening one here in AZ in Goodyear in June and we will definitely be visiting after the initial novelty surge dies down a little. Ironically, it’s far enough away that I will NEED gas when I get there. Roll Eyes

If you visit at noon, Buc will be REALLY happy to see you. At least he was when I stopped at the one in South Georgia on my way to Orlando.

Interesting the comments on being priced a "little bit high". Around these parts lots of food places charge a lot more for mediocre food that has a much less generous serving.

Yeah we found their public bathrooms to be excellent with the stall doors that went down to the floor.

Thanks for all the feedback, getting anxious to head back down to the Smokies again. Smile

No Buccees in the DC area, unfortunately. Closest we have is Wawa, not really a competitor. Kind of like the South vs. New England. Not meaning to offend those of you who are up there, but there's a reason folks move south when they retire!

The prices called out in the video seem to me to be more than fair, you'd pay at least double for a decent pulled pork sandwich around here, and it wouldn't be nearly the quality or quantity!

Brisket Sandwich is good, plenty of good beef jerky options as well. They have gotten so popular that it's difficult to get into some of them, the one in Daytona on 95 is a PIA so even though it's close I avoid it from the traffic aspect.

Nice, clean, well run, unlike the Sinclair Stations of the 60's and 70's

I'm spoiled as I live within minutes of three BBQ joints that Texas Monthly has rated Top 50 in the state of Texas. In other words, I'm pretty spoiled by exceptional BBQ so their brisket sandwiches are good enough to eat while traveling but I'm not making a special trip to get one. As you'll see later in the post, I'm a big fan of Buc-ee's and there are things I enjoy more.

Buc-ee's changed their business model to the current travel centers in 2003 in Luling, TX, which is on I-10 in between Houston and San Antonio. I moved to Houston for the first time in 2005 and everyone told me I needed to stop at Buc-ee's on my way to San Antonio. I was blown away by the cleanliness of restrooms, size of c-stores, quantity of Buc-ee's branded snacks, and quantity of hot food. I'm a big fan of their jerky and breakfast tacos.

I moved to Houston for the 2nd time in 2016, and while I was gone a good friend had moved to Dallas. Also, while I was gone Buc-ee's opened their 2nd travel center in 2009 in Madisonville, TX, which is on I-45 between Houston and Dallas. If I have time, I enjoy stopping at Buc-ee's to stretch my legs, take care of any high level alarms, and have some awesome road trip snacks for my truck.

Now, basically wherever I want to drive (Austin, Galveston, Corpus Christi, Louisiana, etc) there is a Buc'ees travel center on the way. The only exception is there isn't one in between Houston and Shreveport or Texarkana.

Everyone I've road tripped with is a big fan of stopping at Buc-ee's.

I like that Buc-ee's is expanding travel centers to other states. I hope they can keep up the quality of facilities and employees as they expand.

Their crowds have opened a business opportunity. In Texas, there is a chain called The Texan which matches Buc-ee's in terms of number of pumps, size of c-store, cleanliness of restroom, quality of employee, and hot food. They're up to 21 locations.

For example, they opened a Texan on I-10 in Schulenberg which is 43 miles closer to Houston and it's about the time my high level alarms start going off when driving to San Antonio. The last two times I drove to San Antonio I stopped here instead of Buc-ee's.
