In another reversal of former Florida Gov. Rick Scott's policies, Gov. Ron DeSantis ordered an end to Common Core-type educational standards in the state.

DeSantis’ executive order directs Education Commissioner Richard Corcoran to develop a road map for a new way to educate the Sunshine State’s students.

Florida moved to a Common Core-type system under Scott, a change aimed at matching standards for other students in the U.S.

State leaders made some tweaks to Common Core, and re-branded it as ‘Florida Standards’ but they remain very similar to Common Core.

State governors - not the federal government - developed Common Core and former Gov. Jeb Bush did everything he could to sell it as "fewer, higher expectations, critical thinking skills, benchmarked to the best in the world."

Critics of Common Core, including Tea Party groups, said it would take away local control and dumb down schools. Meanwhile, many parents had trouble understanding some of the teaching methods and found the curriculum confusing, particularly some of the math lessons.

“One of the things we would constantly hear about on the campaign trail was a lot of frustration from parents in particular with this idea of Common Core," DeSantis said. "When you complained ... I heard you. I told you I'd do something about it. And today we are acting to bring promises to reality."

About time.

N.J. law to require schools to teach LGBT history in class

New Jersey has become the second state in the nation after California to pass a law requiring schools to teach LGBT history in their classrooms.

NEW JERSEY (WPVI) -- New Jersey has become the second state in the nation after California to pass a law requiring schools to teach LGBT history in their classrooms.

WABC-TV reports, under the new measure, public schools must include lessons about the political, economic and social contributions of the LGBT community.

The new law goes into effect at the beginning of the 2020 school year.

Governor Murphy called the law a step towards inclusion and fairness.
This legislation comes as the #ExposeChristianSchools hashtag started trending on Twitter. It was introduced shortly after news broke that Karen Pence, wife of Vice President Mike Pence, would be teaching at a Christian school in northern Virginia that lists "homosexual or lesbian sexual activity" as among the disqualifying criteria for prospective employees.

I wouldn't worry too much about this. Given how proficient the schools are at teaching 'anything' to their students, I doubt much of this will stick anyway. And even if it does, it only makes these students slightly less than worthless overall given the rest of the information they aren't taught.

Good for DeSantis in killing Common Core, a program that POS RINO Jeb forced down our throats.

I don't know much about Common Core, but I tend to take a jaundiced view of anything supported by leftists. Since leftists are wrong 99.87% of the time, I am almost always right.
