Off duty cop tries to pull over another off duty cop and neither one identifies themselves as such.

The details are a bit unfolding but one of the cops perceived a threat from the other so he pulls his firearm and in the process, he shot himself.

Off duty v. off duty shooting

"An earlier police statement indicated that the deputy had been driving a dark-colored Mercedes and that the police officer was traveling in a blue Subaru."

The guy(1) what shot hisself, is damned fortunate the other guy(2) did not shoot him(1) as well, after hearing the gunshot, thinking he(2) was being shot at.

Jesus. A whole lot of fail to go around.

Deputy Dumbass shouldn't be trying to do traffic enforcement in his personal vehicle. (And besides, I'm guessing he was probably quite... animated... at the time, so was probably indistinguishable from any other road rager.)

Officer Plaxico needs to not drive like an asshole, and especially either learn to keep his finger off the trigger and/or get a real holster.

Considering they were doing like 80 down the highway at the time, I suspect the Deputy didn't hear anything from the other vehicle over the road noise and his own aggressive hollering.

Sounds like alcohol was involved. Noticed that was not stated in the news article.

Possibly. But considering it was at 8:30 am, it's less likely.

There are plenty of sober idiots.

Me thinks the cop who was doing the chasing would have been better off had he just gotten a plate number and followed up later.
