am a bit confused on this one The Johnson Amendment is part of the current tax code. The amendment does not allow 501(c)(3)s to endorse political candidates. ( churches are examples of 501(c)(3)) https://townhall.com/tipsheet/...-the-pulpit-n2406619 Under the current House GOP Tax Reform bill, there is a provision that would repeal the Johnson Amendment but House representatives John Lewis (D) and Ron Kind (D) want to keep the amendment. *********************** ?? Churches that are primarily DEM seem to have historically been very vocal about DEM candidates. Yet they want the Johnson Amendment to stay. confused. The churches have not been prosecuted for their violations. Maybe the DEMs like the freedom of violating the amendment while bashing conservative 501 C3 groups w an abusive IRS

I think that they should keep the amendment, but any church or any other 503c that decides to get into politics loses their tax exempt status permanently [B] Against ALL enemies, foreign and DOMESTIC

Currently, it is not enforced... Democrats regularly preach politics from the pulpit. Even to the extent of inviting people like Hillary Clinton to guest "preach". Only Republicans pay any attention to it at all. Certainly not the Rev. Jeremiah Wright, or the Rev. Al Sharpton or the Rev. Jesse Jackson.... If it was applied equally, and enforced equally, the idea would be OK. But it's not. The Johnson amendment is part of weaponizing the federal government. We need that sucker gone and gone. If you don't like what a preacher is preaching leave the Church. Not hard to do at all. "Some things are apparent. Where government moves in, community retreats, civil society disintegrates and our ability to control our own destiny atrophies. The result is: families under siege; war in the streets; unapologetic expropriation of property; the precipitous decline of the rule of law; the rapid rise of corruption; the loss of civility and the triumph of deceit. The result is a debased, debauched culture which finds moral depravity entertaining and virtue contemptible." -- Justice Janice Rogers Brown "The United States government is the largest criminal enterprise on earth." -rduckwor
