If I inquire about a Rolex and they show me an Omega or products in the same class, then that's salesmanship.

If I inquire about a Rolex and they say that they don't have it but claim they have something similar and then pull out cheap mass produced chicom crap, that's grossly disingenuous, ridiculous and a waste of my time.

I was complaining about the inverse of this in the WYD forum.

I get people looking for "custom Rolex watches" saying "I don't have a budget", and after putting in a few hours (or in some cases days) worth of time, they only have Casio money to spend. And had they told me that at the beginning, I would have gladly pointed them to the Casios.

Yes, but like I said in the OP, in this case, the store used to carry the brand I was seeking. Wasn't sure if they still carried it hence the query.

But it's a fair point - the store should generally match the product tier you're seeking.

First thing that popped into my mind as well. It seems the first reply to every question has no pertinent information to the question.

Very similar to folks asking about specific reloading equipment and folks posting, "Get a Dillon"

This continues to raise the question: what was the item and which brand were you seeking?

+1 I tried sales, really did. But my problem it seemed was I listened to what a customer said, stuff like “nope not interested” or “I was looking for X, I find Y unsuitable” at that point I excused myself and went on my way.

The minute I hear the salesperson suggesting another product I leave. I spend considerable time researching the product and do not wish to buy a competing product or to be upsold.
