I'll see if I can find the source for this.
It was a drill weekend for me and we talked about it a bit (there are a few Mass. LEO's).
One thing that came up was that due to the law cited elsewhere in the thread and because he "died an innocent man", his daughter is entitled to a fairly large sum of money from the NFL that she would not have received due to him being guilty.
He may have done one good thing in the end, I suppose.

He was convicted of the first degree murder Odin Lloyd - how is that an innocent man?

Ironically In the eyes of the state of Massachusetts, former New England Patriots star Aaron Hernandez died an innocent man, thanks to an archaic legal principle called “abatement ab initio,” said Martin W. Healy, chief legal counsel to the Massachusetts Bar Association. Though Hernandez was convicted in 2014 of murdering Odin Lloyd of Boston, Hernandez’s appeal was not complete. Abatement ab initio means “from the beginning,” Healy said, and it means that upon a person’s death, if they have not exhausted their legal appeals, their case reverts to its status at the beginning — it’s as if the trial and conviction never happened. “Unfortunately, in the Odin Lloyd matter, for the family, there won’t be any real closure,” said Healy. “Aaron Hernandez will go to his death an innocent man.” The principle comes from English common law, Healy said, and is observed by several of the older states in the nation. It rarely comes up in practice, he said, and people forget it exists.

2012BOSS302Oops - Thanks, I guess the memes distracted me from catching that.

PDNobody knows nuthin yet. It's all speculation. Someone is looking for a pay day. I doubt Bob Kraft is going to give up anything without a fight.

So this is a wild scenario - Hernandez is about to have his charges vacated and as such, he is not guilty of the charge (not to be confused with "innocent")
As he is not-guilty of the charges, his signing bonus can be paid (it was hold) and the dead man's fiancée is its recipient.
This is going to be a great legal case to follow. If the company was not paying the employee a bonus due to the employee's legal status, which has been vacated, is the company required to pay the bonus?
The employee is dead, and dead people cannot be tried for crime they are suspected of committing (AFAIK). What legal standing does the employer have which allows it to withhold the bonus from the deceased's survivor(s)?

Victims lawsuits will come in like a nor'easter but lawyers on WEEI are saying he was not available to play so no payout. Still to early to tell.
