Based on the correctional facilities that I've helped design over the past 25 years or so, I find it a bit hard to believe that they would have left anything in his cell that could have been used as an effective barricade. Furniture in newer facilities is fixed to the floor or wall to prevent it from being used as a weapon or for barricade purposes. Therefore, it must either an old facility or the guards just didn't want to risk damaging the clothes and personal items he put in front of the door when they realized what he was doing.

Dependent on state law or possibly prison rules this may be true, a protracted pronouncement of death. It may be that until either an Medical Investigator or a doctor is actually on scene and pronounces one dead, life support must be attempted and not cease until officially pronounced. This was the law in the state that I was licensed as an EMT in the 1980's.

We had one exemption to the law we could invoke, I'll leave it at that.

One of the suicide notes he left behind was to his gay lover.

WEEI has been alluding to this all week. If you're gay prison is no longer a deterrent.

I read the linked story. Seems Hernandez' family wants his brain studied to see if he had damage from his playing football. I guess they want him posthumously exonerated and some brain trauma lawsuit money.

We can assume the knot in the rope had a "tight end"?

Uh, my post was in the nature of a light-hearted jest, as in 'pronounce' and 'say', with me pointing out that it is VERY easy to say the word 'dead' very quickly.

Am I wasting my time here?

Aaron Hernandez death: Family to get his suicide notes

http://www.foxnews.com/us/2017...s-suicide-notes.html

The suicide notes found in Aaron Hernandez’s prison cell after he hanged himself last week will be released to his family Monday afternoon.

A Bristol Superior Court judge in Massachusetts ordered that the letters be handed over to the former NFL player’s family after their lawyer, George Leontire, filed a motion saying they should be able to “know their loved one’s final thoughts,” according to the Boston Globe.

Before hanging himself at the maximum security Souza-Baranowski Corrections Center, Hernandez scribbled notes to three people: his fiancee, Shayanna Jenkins-Hernandez, their 4-year-old daughter, Avielle, and his prison lover, Kyle Kennedy, reports have said.

A private funeral service for Hernandez was set to begin at 1 p.m Monday in his hometown of Bristol, Conn.

“We wish to say goodbye to Aaron in a private ceremony and thank everyone in advance for affording us a measure of privacy during this difficult time,” the family said in a statement.

I don't quite see how that will bring solace and comfort.
