My Drake SPR-4. Sockets for up to two dozen band selection crystals of your choice. Each band has a 600KHz span. 5MHz 1st IF for image rejection. 50KHz 2nd IF for sharp audio band selectivity with high-Q L-C filters. And a sharp notch filter that could be positioned anywhere in the audio band to take out squeal from an interfering station. A calibration crystal for 1KHz tuning dial accuracy. Top socket for swiveling loop antenna. Other goodies too. I still have it. https://www.universal-radio.co...g/commrxvr/spr4.html Serious about crackers

Never fond of Receivers. Have no practical use for a radio and frowned upon mixing integrated amplifiers with anything else. Less is more way of thinking. Just remembered i owned a weird looking ITT receiver in my late teens. My current Aventage A2A is my second receiver. Have been a Yamaha follower for ages. My DSP-A1 is still up and running after 20+ years. Not a Receiver but an A/V, i guess. 0-0 "OP is a troll" - Flashlightboy, 12/18/20

I've only owned one stereo receiver a Harman/Kardon HK3480 that I used as a back-up. I forgot that I ever even owned a receiver because I never used the tuner. My favorite integrated amplifier that I ever owned is the HK PM665 I still own two but both need servicing. I am currently using a Yamaha A-S1100. I'll give that second place. _______________________________ Do the interns get Glocks?

This post got me thinking... I have never actually owned a receiver in all the years I have been into audio. My first rig was a Sony integrated amp that I only used for vinyl, then got married and went for quite a few years without while raising kids. Fortunately stored the records. When I got back into it my system was a Denon tuner preamp combo driving Denon separate power that I still have in my bedroom and the main system is Perreaux pre, amp and Denon tuner mated to Klipsch speakers. Several friends have owned some high end receivers that sounded great but I just never purchased one. I guess we are talking about vintage 2-channel here mostly but AVR's are quite popular now. Originally AM/FM radio was an integral part of this particular component. Later, integrated amps separated the tuner from the device. Further discrimination led to separating the preamp from the amp. Initially, I bought a receiver but being in the Audio business back then I quickly became a separates man. I still have some of those components today. My first "receiver" was a Pioneer SX737 ~ 40wpc which was moderate in it's day > circa 1974. Moved on to integrated amps from Kenwood and HK then to more esoteric preamps amps and amps made by small companies that have been long forgotten except from the old school audiophiles.

My first was a Carver 900 Receiver bought in 1985-1986 . I had other stereo systems prior . "The more People I meet, the more I like Dogs."

My vintage system for the bedroom was: Twin original McIntosh MC275s bridged for monoblocks. C22 preamp and MR71 tuner. Before that I had the MX110 receiver, which was a great unit. Sold it all to concentrate on my main system. ,

When it comes to stereo, I've owned two over the decades. A HK 570i that I bought for the bedroom stereo setup, though I admit I bought more for its looks than performance. Nice warm sound signature, but it wound up being rather fragile electronically despite not being used all that much. Still own the thing...it's someplace in the depths of our basement. I apparently didn't learn from the experience and bought a Kyocera R-461 as a replacement, though that one still works after all these decades but also doesn't get used much. My mind's ear tells me that the Harmon sounded that much more sweeter. Someday I should see what it would take to get it running again. Maybe (as my hearing goes to pot). ![]()
Great dad. Nowadays these vintage monster Pioneer SX-1980s are crazy priced. Refurb/restored units regularly sell in the high four figures to mid teen five figures. Who would've thought that back in the mid to late 70s? That said, my best friend had a base SX that had maybe 20w a side; a really wonderful sounding receiver that wasn't fully appreciated until he sold it for a Sansui when looking for more power . Any of those old SXs from that vintage, particularly the SX-1980, would look right as rain if placed alongside my ancient CTF-1000 and RT-707. -MG
