Charlottesville VA -- Three Days Of The Condor?
Good afternoon SF,

I'll be spending three days in Charlottesville, VA in mid-May. If you know of "must do" activities, it would be great to hear from you. Restaurants, sightseeing, hiking...whatever you like to do there. Taking the wife for 30 years of wedded bliss celebration.

Congratulations!

I'd walk UVA campus, it's pretty. Also get breakfast at Bodos.

Depending on the weather:

1. Perched atop several rolling hills just outside of Charlottesville, Carter Mountain Orchard offers sweeping 360 degree views of the valleys below.

2. Monticello

3. This is a nice place in the morning to stretch your legs.

Saunders-Monticello Trail:
Perched along the side of a steep hill, the boardwalk weaves thru a forest of mature trees and blossoming bushes.

4. I am a history nerd and I think this place is really cool...

A Virginia Historic Landmark

Michie Tavern, located ½ mile below Jefferson’s Monticello, accommodated travelers with food, drink, and lodging more than 200 years ago.

Servers in period attire offer bountiful Southern Midday Fare. The rustic restaurant setting renders a lunch dining experience rich in southern culture and hospitality for families to enjoy. Get a taste of the 18th-century as we feature a buffet of southern fried chicken, marinated baked chicken, hickory-smoked pork barbecue, stewed tomatoes, black-eyed peas, buttermilk biscuits and so much more. Lunch served daily, 11:30 – 3:00.

The 1784 Pub, an 18th century style pub in the oldest section of Michie Tavern, serves Virginia wines, beers and hard ciders. In addition, light fare is available during late afternoons. Michie Tavern’s 1784 Pub, an experience to remember!

On a nice day I would check out and hike the Blue Ridge Tunnel at Crozet:

Thank you all for great ideas. I have them logged in a list with their websites, and will ensure the bride chooses what she would like to do.

If you are a history buff, Montpelier Mansion, James Madison's home isn't far from Charlottesville.

Congratulations on the anniversary! That is awesome, and quite the piece of time.

30 years… I honestly thought you were about 35-40 years old.

I'll second Monticello, Montpelier, and Michie Tavern. By the Michie Tavern is the Meadow Rum Mill and General Store.

The Luray Caverns are only 60 miles from the center of Charlottesville, about an hour's drive. They are worth a visit. My photos are here: https://www.flickr.com/photos/...ms/72157631991889579. It is the site of the only "Stalacpipe Organ", which plays tuned stalactites.

if you are cold natured, take a jacket,

the car museum is ok,

the Mimslyn Inn is a nice old hotel,

the restaurant in the basement is good,

pre cooties there was a nice place to eat in town that was an old hardware store, and a nice coffee house up the street a bit,

not sure if they are still there
