Need a new daily. Can I make a civic fun to drive? We don't have much in the way of straight or flat roads around here, so I need something that handles. Don't care if its slow as it won't be slower than the s10 im used to. I'm thinking a sport model sedan, manual for <$20k. And before it's suggested, I don't want to pay the extra $10k for an accord sport. I am also looking @ BRZ/86 because of RNShooter's thread. I want the 86, with the BRZ performance package (rims, Brembos) in Oceanic blue. Apparently an no go in my color of choice. A Perpetual Disappointment...

So I suppose an extra 17K for the Civic Type R is out of the question? Currently have Aegean Blue Metallic; soon to have Championship White...as pictured below.

Buy a used Si. Comes with a manual 6 speed and handles very well. My ‘07 Si Sedan that’s been lowered with the factory 1” kit from HFP (Honda Factory Performance) will easily stay with M3’s in corners (straights are another thing). ——————————————— The fool hath said in his heart, There is no God. Civic Si? Take the Civic Sport for a test drive and see what you think.

New SIs are turbo 1.5l. I would very much like to avoid the turbo and it's added maintenance concerns, so not if I can help it. If I was going turbo, I'd be looking at a WRX base. Personally, not a fan of the Type R styling. Too much body kit for me. I will be stealing some of its parts though, including the front chassis brace, rear sway bar, shifter and leather wrapped wheel as upgrades to a base civic. Will likely do a lighter 17" rim & tire in a 5 or 6 spoke design as well. Not a fan of the OE rims. I want a daily I can drive for 100k without changing more than oil and wear items, but have more fun than a Corolla. I'm tired of working on shit all the time. A Perpetual Disappointment...

And the late model turbo ones are insignificantly faster. I'm guessing they are slightly better on the twisties too. Considered a Type R when I just got my car. Not worth the premium above MSRP. Jesse Sic Semper Tyrannis

I can certainly understand that. The Civic Sport certainly may fit the bill for you. FWIW the Accura ILX has the 2.4L 201 HP non turbo engine, but requires premium gas, but not sure if it comes with 6 speed or not and starts around 24K. https://www.autoblog.com/2019/...-sport-sedan-review/

Would one of the base model Tesla 3s work for you? I've been very happy with my performance model

The BRZ is stupid fun. Toyota/Subaru is the best of both worlds. Bulletproof reliability with the Boxer burble. Lots of compliments on the looks, too. Don't let the color stop you. Bruce "The designer of the gun had clearly not been instructed to beat about the bush. 'Make it evil,' he'd been told. 'Make it totally clear that this gun has a right end and a wrong end. Make it totally clear to anyone standing at the wrong end that things are going badly for them. If that means sticking all sort of spikes and prongs and blackened bits all over it then so be it. This is not a gun for hanging over the fireplace or sticking in the umbrella stand, it is a gun for going out and making people miserable with." -Douglas Adams “It is just as difficult and dangerous to try to free a people that wants to remain servile as it is to try to enslave a people that wants to remain free." -Niccolo Machiavelli The trouble with fighting for human freedom is that one spends most of one's time defending scoundrels. I will look into the accuras, but the jump to high test around here is $.70/gal. Makes the low power civic look pretty good. Tesla, as I understand it are electric? We are rural community with significant Amish presence. Don't really have the infrastructure for an EV. They do look cool otherwise. Finding cars more than about 5 years old without major rust damage here is uncommon. And I honestly haven't really liked the looks of a civic since the 2001 ish body. The 8th & 9th gens were kinda goofy looking. Honestly it's gonna be what I got in the best. I'm 6'1" 240, so some things are just not gonna work. A Perpetual Disappointment...

Depends on your priorities. Have you looked into the 2.0T Accord?? That little snail on the exhaust manifold makes them a lot more fun... If you don't care about speed and that wonderful feeling of turbo boost kicking in - I'd say that 2.0 Sport would be good to go. The one Civic that always catches my eye is the Touring model with the center exit exhaust. I bet you could find one of those used at a great price -------------------- I like Sigs and HK's, and maybe Glocks

Honda is releasing an update & adding the 6MT to the Civic Sport Touring in hatchback trim. Would probably be my choice of Civic outside of the Si or CTR. My only holdback would be needing an extended test drive to ensure the rev hang is less than it used to be. I had an HRV for a loaner with the 6MT & the rev hang alone would've kept me from buying it. I test drove the 2.0T 6MT Accord Sport when they came out & dont recall rev hang with it, so maybe they've toned it down. The Enemy's gate is down.

If you want good handling look at a Mazda, and it doesn't have to be the Miata. "If Gun Control worked, Chicago would look like Mayberry, not Thunderdome" - Cam Edwards

Had a 2014 EX Coupe which was a lot of fun to drive. Much more nimble and responsive than the Accord. Even had paddle shifters. Take one for a ride and I think you will be pleasantly surprised. I have had a number of Honda’s with mileage ranging from 180K to 240K and all were still going when I sold them. I would still be happily driving the Civic Coupe but my driving requirements changed so I traded it in on a 4 Runner. "You know, Scotland has its own martial arts. Yeah, it's called Fuck You. I’m only 5 ft 9 + but found the current gen Civic very cramped inside; whereas my 2018 Accord 2.0 has plenty of head room and feels roomy with great visibility. Handling is fantastic IMO. I have the Touring which has bells and whistles; the 2.0 Sport has all you need including available with manual if you want; but it’s high 20’s. _________________________ “Remember, remember the fifth of November!"
