Thanks for the trip down memory lane. As like this discussion the usual suggestions are in this thread but this post from Sig209about toilet paper was ver prophetic…

One of the best books I have ever purchased is Dare to Prepare by Holly Drennan Deyo. It is a great resource for preppers.

You tend not to care about foid, water or security after going to the LSD store. At least until the trip is over.....

White flour, salt, baking powder, baking soda, yeast, powdered milk - bread and biscuits can be cooked in a dutch oven over a fire. If the yeast starts getting tired you can get sourdough starter going. Helpful if stuck in place. You can even clarify butter and can in jars so it keeps.

Cooking oil. Salt. Rice. Canned corn. Canned ham.

Peasant food will get you through and you don't have to have some pre-packaged, over-priced "survival food".
I like this idea. Will add some large jars of peanut-butter for Sunday dinner.

Last week my house had a slab leak (water leak under the house) and my water main was turned off for 6 days before the repair was made and the water main turned back on.
Have a river nearby and have backpacking water purification pump. Been usung them for decades.
I keep about 50 gallons of water on hand. Conventional advice is that you will need 1 gallon per day. Bull-puckey !!!! I drink a little over a gallon a day. I also had to wash my hands, brush my teeth, and my kitty needs water every day too.

Fortunately I have the keys to an empty family house nearby so I went there daily to shower. I really did not have to rough it, I just used this as a learning and teaching moment for me.

And not to be gross, but you need to consider water needed for toilet use, including santizing your hands and washing them. Fortunately I have an old camping toilet that worked well enough.

Water Water Water, if you don't have water within 3 days you will be DEAD.

Best wishes to you.

Yeah, may have to let the Amish know. They may not watch the news channel 24/7.

The other thing about cooking food (meats) that may be in your freezer is that I have a charcoal smoker that does not require electricity. Maybe I need to investigate smoking meats for look term storage.
the post about canning meats is a good one too as I could do that with out electricity also.
