captain127Happy birthday Air Force!
Considering the duplication of support services ( admin logistics medical etc) the USAF being a separate service makes less sense now than it did years ago.
Perhaps much like the Marines get most of the service support functions from the navy it is time to blend the Army and Air Force again?

No, that’s really not a good idea at all here.
You’re talking about two separate services with completely different cultures and roles and you want to mash that together?
Even during WWII, the Army Air Corps/Force and US Army were two different entities and only related by the “Army” name.

LOL. The Army really cannot conceive of an Air Force function outside serving them. No, not a good idea to blend the services at all. All it takes is a brief experience with Army aviation to see how shitty the Army is at managing air forces. The nation is better served by a separate Army & Air Force.

I’d love to see an example here.
The Army just has a completely different mindset and culture than the Air Force in just about everything they do.
I saw in being that I served 4 years Army AD and 6 in the Air National Guard. The Air Force seemed to have this very good mentality of “take care of your people and they will take care of the mission“.
The Army on the other hand seemed to regard their people as just another piece of equipment to be used and abused to accomplish something.
I can’t see how mashing that together would be anything short of an utter disaster.

Pretty sure we’re saying exactly the same thing. If you want an example, I can provide many. From an AF perspective the Army fails to grasp prioritization between units. We have a finite number of assets and it takes time to transit places. The management of who needs what is best done by AF members who grasp the idiosyncrasies of the assets.
And that’s written from an AOR where AF forces are supporting ground troops. It’s even more useless to be managed by the army in places there is no army. Which is most of the places I go.

In major military complex areas, medical and support is now being done jointly. Joint Base Lackland/Randolph/Ft Sam Houston, Joint Base Ft Lewis/McChord, Joint Base McGuire/Ft Dix, Joint Base Andrews/Naval Air Support, Joint Base Pearl Harbor/Hickam AFB, are a few examples.
Entirely different mission sets. Air Force hauls people and stuff and drops bombs and maintains air superiority. Plus the Air Force maintains airfields and support bases for hauling everybody and their stuff to and from if we go to war. They became separate services with separate funding paths so their mission would not get diluted. Although in the past 20 years all the services have worked much more closely in joint operations and training.
We are an Air Force family and proud to have served. Raise your glasses with wishes for the next 75 years to be just as successful.

I absolutely will! Happy Birthday to the boys in blue!
You guys had the BEST coffee at Camp Bastion. That was one of the main reasons why we went there (well that and we had to load our tanks on your C17's

)
The Air Force made it possible for the USMC to bring tanks to the fight in AFG. Semper Fi boys!
