Pipe SmokerNew Medicare card w/o SS#
I received a new Medicare card a few days ago. This one has a number that
isn’t a slight modification of my SS#. Much better! I didn’t ask for it – they just sent it.

Got the new # on hand a few days ago, haven't read up on it much.
Since I don't hand my old # out anyway, wonder whether those financial businesses will adopt the new style?
I'm still abiding by the contract ssa.gov made when I signed up circa 1961ish....that USE of that # was NOT for ID or non-ssa use. Of course the practice of such has been altered along the way by myriad agents.

AquabirdHeck, my dentist office requires you to give them your SS number. Makes me mad but they will not treat you without it.

Have you thought about making one up? Not that I would ever do that

For real. I have always left that blank with doctors and such.
"It did not really matter what we expected from life, but rather what life expected from us. We needed to stop asking about the meaning of life, and instead to think of ourselves as those who were being questioned by life – daily and hourly. Our answer must consist not in talk and meditation, but in right action and in right conduct. Life ultimately means taking the responsibility to find the right answer to its problems and to fulfill the tasks which it constantly sets for each individual." Viktor Frankl, Man's Search for Meaning, 1946.

Might want to check to see if that's legal.
They want it in case you don't pay it may be easier to track you and other customers down to ding your credit.
I've had doctors offices say that and imply they had to have it. Ask for the doctor, tell them the issue you have with that and I'll bet they back down.
Don't worry, the needles they use today come out of a sealed pack, not dull.

WoodmanSince freezing my credit I do not sweat it.
When the Sprint tech said "the fastest way to access my account (and presumably clear identity confirmation hurdles) I immediately offered the number. Could have as easily reached across and punched in into the keyboard, I later realized.

m1009To everybody getting the new card, please, please make sure your doctors office gets th copy of the card. Once they stop allowing use of the old ID numbers, it will be impossible to check eligibility or what service is gonna be allowed after that unless they have the right ID number.
Make sure you check every time you go.
