I am now officially retired and moved to Arkansas. Along with a ton of "honey do" tasks involving paint and a she shed, I've also been getting my gun stuff in order. I scouted out the local public range and to say it's sketchy is just being polite. I decided to join a local private range but it occurred to me that it is a bit across the state line into Missouri. I know it's no problem moving suppressors around, but I sent in a 5320.20 when I permanently moved the SBRs from WV to AR. But what do I do for taking them to the range for a day? Can you make a 5320.20 "open ended"? I called the local ATF field office, no reply yet. Thanks in advance! _______________________________ The artist formerly known as AllenInWV

Following. I live in FL within shouting distance of Alabama and a short drive to GA (both those states allow NFA SBR). Never thoroughly investigated what I would need to do to legally transport my rifle across state lines

Don't have an answer for your question but I just sent you an e-mail with a link to a gun club in Arkansas that's not too far from you.

From what I understand, you just file one once a year for the SBR you’re planning to travel with, and it’s good for a year. ______________________________________________ “There are plenty of good reasons for fighting, but no good reason ever to hate without reservation, to imagine that God Almighty Himself hates with you, too.”

Ahhh...that must be the open-ended thing I thought I heard about. I wonder if it's for just a calendar year or if I could do say Nov 23 - Nov 24. It'd really be nice if our gov't agencies would respond to people trying to do the right thing. LOL _______________________________ The artist formerly known as AllenInWV

When you fill it out, write the date span for one calendar year, and for the location, I’ve even seen that they’ll accept a geographical square denoted with coordinates at each point. I’m looking at one right now where the guy lives in Utah and gave them the boundary coordinates of the whole state of Arizona for a a year and they approved it. Likely, that’s not even necessary. It’s not like they have the resources to monitor or enforce where you go within a given state once you get permission to take it to a destination within that state, so pick a city and off you go.This message has been edited. I've seen GPS coordinates used when camping in the Rocky Mountains. As Smudge said, do it for the entire year. __________________________

I was considering Smudge's implied plan, but man.....that is one case I would not wanna be "that guy". Murphy and his law are not complete strangers to me. And yeah, I do need to switch the name. _______________________________ The artist formerly known as AllenInWV

Allen, Ha - I grew up in the town of Harrison. After 30 years in the service, now up in Maine. Last time I was there would have been back in about’91. Great memories of the old farm, floating the Buffalo, Friday night home football games at the old Goblin Stadium, and celebrating 4th of July at the country square — Enjoy! Sounds like Smudge has you covered. As an aside if you ever have reason to visit Springfield Benchrest Rifle Club up in Billings, MO take it. Used to be a member up there, it’s a great facility. Success always occurs in private, and failure in full view. Complacency sucks…
