At least I've never seen anything like it - 1 week from publication to apology AND damages: "Following last Saturday’s (Jan 19) Telegraph magazine cover story “The mystery of Melania”, we have been asked to make clear that the article contained a number of false statements which we accept should not have been published. Mrs Trump’s father was not a fearsome presence and did not control the family. Mrs Trump did not leave her Design and Architecture course at University relating to the completion of an exam, as alleged in the article, but rather because she wanted to pursue a successful career as a professional model. Mrs Trump was not struggling in her modelling career before she met Mr Trump, and she did not advance in her career due to the assistance of Mr Trump. We accept that Mrs Trump was a successful professional model in her own right before she met her husband and obtained her own modelling work without his assistance. Mrs Trump met Mr Trump in 1998, not in 1996 as stated in the article. The article also wrongly claimed that Mrs Trump’s mother, father and sister relocated to New York in 2005 to live in buildings owned by Mr Trump. They did not. The claim that Mrs Trump cried on election night is also false. We apologise unreservedly to The First Lady and her family for any embarrassment caused by our publication of these allegations. As a mark of our regret we have agreed to pay Mrs Trump substantial damages as well as her legal costs." Link

Her lawyer(s) clearly did a heckuva job here. An admission of fault so all-encompassing is remarkable. <>< America, Land of the Free - because of the Brave

Sometimes the hammer of justice falls very swiftly onto a person / organization that whole heartily deserve it. This is an example of that happening. Unfortunately you need an army of expensive lawyers to make it happen, most of the time.

The success of a solution usually depends upon your point of view |
One week after publication they are paying lawyer fees and damages? I would like to see transcripts of those conversations. “We truly live in a wondrous age of stupid.” - 83v45magna "I think it's important that people understand free speech doesn't mean free from consequences societally or politically or culturally." -Pranjit Kalita, founder and CIO of Birkoa Capital Management

Wait, what? |
If they had not been beset by lawyers and held to task, they'd still be standing by their fictitious bullshit. And the rabid hypocritical left would be crowing it as if it were the unmitigated truth. “Remember to get vaccinated or a vaccinated person might get sick from a virus they got vaccinated against because you’re not vaccinated.” - author unknown

They spelled her name right. LOL Shit, get her lawyer working for Donald and make Pelosi and Schumer pay for the wall out of their own pockets. "It did not really matter what we expected from life, but rather what life expected from us. We needed to stop asking about the meaning of life, and instead to think of ourselves as those who were being questioned by life – daily and hourly. Our answer must consist not in talk and meditation, but in right action and in right conduct. Life ultimately means taking the responsibility to find the right answer to its problems and to fulfill the tasks which it constantly sets for each individual." At this point, you can bet the Trump family has a small army of lawyers who have documented proof and lifetime histories on each member. As stories come out, they likely sift through what is written and launch targeted strikes for maximum effect, with overwhelming documented evidence backing up their claims, along with a suggested settlement fee & substantial legal fees. The case is likely so ironclad that places have no choice but to concede quickly. Glad to see it.

It should be mentioned that libel laws in the UK are significantly different, and less permissive to the writer, than in the US. The odds of this working on US papers or publishers are slim to none.

They got caught and paying due costs. That’s expected in any civilized country. What I want to know is if there will be a change in behavior. If not, the penalty wasn’t enough.
