DanH...respectfully, I don't think that's a good idea at all. In this case, "Near Beer" is a fallacy...JMHO. Otto would be better off with a Dr. Pepper or water or club soda or any other beverage of his choice that doesn't resemble an alcoholic beverage. Again...JMHO, and in FULL agreement with Smudge.
To add...to me, drinking O'Douls is akin to a heroine addict trying to kick THAT habit by smoking pot, with the justification, "At least it's not heroine." In the words of LT Daniel Kaffee, "See where I'm going with this?"

OK. One of the things that's kept me from alcoholism was asking myself if I would still drink whisky if it gave me the same buzz as a Sprite which has always kept me from "drinking for effect."
I've also not been that far down this road, either.
