My 21 yo son had what we thought was an abcess drained on his thigh a couple days ago. It didn’t really get better and he was in terrific pain so we took him up to ER and they drained it again. Several hours later he called and was in horrible pain and some swelling took place. We shot him up to ER immediately. They didn’t mess around and found Fornier’s(sorry for spelling) Gangrene. They did surgery and cleaned out all the areas the infection was. He goes back in tomorrow am for another cleaning and check and then they are putting a vacuum device in/on him to keep it clean. His vitals are good and he is in ICU. The docs and staff are all good. The surgeon didn’t have to take any tissue off which he said was a big plus.

Then on top of it I have been coughing and hacking so I go to my doc today and find out I got Covid. 3 days at home and a 5 day run of Paxlovid.

I don’t post stuff like this but, I had to get it off my chest. I am very scared for him. Then on top of it I can’t even be there w/ him and his mother, my great wife, for support. Been doing a lot of FaceTime on the phone though and a lot of praying.

I don’t want to sound cheesy but, this place means something to me and it feels good just to get this of my chest. Thanks!!

I'm glad they got it solved, and he's in recovery.

Wow! Sorry to hear this. Fournier's gangrene is extremely bad stuff. Fatal if not recognized and treated properly in time. Think of it as flesh-eating bacteria near your genital area. Praying for his recovery.

My wife did. That’s why we are so scared. The surgeons and nursing staff have been wonderful. I am very scared but, I am staying positive.

I really don’t know. He had an abcess drained and then POW. From what I understand his diabetes doesn’t help in skin bacterial issues.
