Any iPhone 12 Mini owners here? - update pg 2, got it Login/Join

I currently have an XR and Verizon has been harassing me to upgrade. Finally spoke with a rep and the offers are actually pretty good. The Mini has caught my eye as I don’t particularly need a large phone.

Any owners here that regret the Mini? I’ll check one out in person when I’m back home in a couple of days, just curious if there’s any buyers remorse.

Let me just say this my brother just wanted a small phone about 9 months ago and ended up with the SE 2020. He is not happy at all with the small battery run time used in his SE phone. He definitely has buyers remorse about the SE phone since he usually goes 2 to 3 years on a phone. The 12 mini has a 2,227 mAh battery so it is bigger than his SE but not by much. I would check out the battery mAh on any new phone you are thinking about.

If you’ve been rocking the Xr for a while and can live with it, I’d stick with the form factor. Battery capacity will be a lot better than the mini regardless of how much better the tech has gotten; you can only stuff so much battery in a smaller platform. Unless the Xr has been a PITA to tote around, I’d opt for the longer battery life.

I just upgraded from a 6 to a 12. Yes it is larger but not appreciably so and can be carried in my pants pocket without issue. The battery life is fantastic.

I haven't had any issue with mine, other than at night, if not on wifi.

5g alone seems to burn an incredible amount of battery.

I currently have an iPhone 7 256gb and am thinking about upgrading.

I can purchase cheaper from Apple with the Veteran's discount than I can from my carrier.

My frame of reference is not great as my total experience with "Smart" phones is about one month. That considered, I am satisfied with my 12 Mini. I wanted something pocketable and durable (Cnet has some really interesting drop and immersion tests online). I listen to little music and watch an occasional short video, don't do any gaming, spend a fair amount of time surfing the net, and the battery lasts about two days.

It sounds like Apple is having a hard time selling smaller phones like this esp when the cheaper but still good iPhone 8 and SE 2nd gen are still available:

Apple Reportedly Slashes Planned iPhone 12 Mini Production Amid Slumping Demand

I think a lot of people are fed up with the constant push to upgrade phones every year or other year and are holding onto them for a much longer time. I had a 6 for almost 5 years and got an 11 in Dec 2019 and plan to keep it for 4-5 years.

That’s about the same for me and what is having me lean towards the Mini. The only thing I can think of that I may regret is for Waze or Maps as I do travel a lot with work. Not all the rentals I get have car play. I can see that being an issue, but... if my memory is correct from my initial research the screen size on the Mini is about .6” smaller than the XR.

I hear you, there was a time I’d shell out the money for the newest phone every year. Those years are long gone. I’ve had the XR for well over 2 years and have no complaints other than its size. It’s annoying when wearing nicer pants for work. Minor gripe, I know, but I can get the Mini for about a wash with trade in value and additional discounts they’re offering. The 12 is a little smaller than the XR too, but a few dollars more. I really just need to get my hands on them to compare.

Not too worried about battery life. Not on it a lot, and I always have a charger near by 99% of the time.

Just do like I do and take it at around the 18-24 month mark and get it replaced for 40-50 bucks.

I had the iPhone 8 and got the 12 mini in January. I finally got tired of the battery issues on the 8. I'm fine with the life on the 12, I aways have a charger nearby and its fine if I don't abuse it.

I love the small size and the picture taking ability is far beyond the 8.

Have it, like it. It's what I wanted in my next iPhone - wanted to downshift in size.

Been very happy with mine. My only complaint is that it's still too big. Wish I still had my 1st gen SE as it was perfect.

I went ahead and ordered one last night after stopping by a Verizon store to compare them. The 12 is a tad smaller than the XR, but add in a slim case and I’m where I’m at now. The Mini is certainly smaller, but I can live with it. Should be able to pick it up tomorrow when I’m back home.

Can anyone more familiar with cameras tell me if the iPhone 12 mini camera is at least as good as the iPhone X???

I am considering the 12 mini for its smaller size and lighter weight. I use it almost exclusively for texting, music and camera. But the camera is ultra important to me. I'll have the photos decades after the phone is e-waste.

What does this have to do with the Mini?

Time for some bread and cheese.

I went with the Pro this time around. I have had Maxes for some time. The size of the Pro is just about perfect for me.

In short, yes it’s better than the X. The camera on the Mini is the same setup as the 12, the 12 Pro has even additional camera features. Stole below from a web site...

Phone X has a dual-camera setup but it is different from the iPhone 12 since it packs a secondary telephoto camera which is arguably not as useful as the 12MP ultra-wide angle shooter of the newer iPhone.

Even the primary 12MP shooter on the iPhone 12 is much better than the iPhone X’s shooter. The resolution might not have changed but the iPhone 12’s primary camera has a wider aperture, better OIS implementation, bigger individual pixels, and much more. The iPhone 12 also has better video recording capabilities including features like Audio Zoom, QuickTake video, Stereo recording, Night mode time-lapse, and extended dynamic range.

Another thing to note is that the iPhone 12 comes with a 12MP TrueDepth camera while the iPhone X has a 7MP TrueDepth camera. This allows the former to capture better selfies and also helps with Face ID as it has a slightly wider field of operation.

I've had mine for a couple months now, and I love it. I love that it is smaller. Easy to carry in my front pocket. I have an iPad Mini and an iPad Pro, so don't need or want a tablet-sized monster.

And...it doesn't cost a thousand dollars.

Going on 4 months with the mini and absolutely love it. Best form factor since the iPhone 5 (when phones were still phone-sized) in my opinion. Consider myself a moderate user and have not have any problems with battery life.
