In quest to find a small drop in camper I have found one that fits that Chevy. Owner says box dimension is 98-1/2" x 73". My dodge dimension is 70" wide. The 98"+ seem about the same. I guess my question since this unit is a couple hundred miles away. What are your thoughts? I could bolt three 2x6" to the top of the rails. The two on the sides I could adj to where they would expand the width to 73" Other thoughts. Thanks guys. "Practice like you want to play in the game"

Might want to make sure the bed on the Dodge is rectangular. I believe some recently made trucks have beds that vary in width from front to back.

If I'm understanding what you posted, there is NOTHING you can bolt on to the top of the bed rails to will allow it accommodate ANYTHING that is wider than the bed. You will NEVER fit a 73" wide box in a 70" wide bed. ____________________________________________________________ If Some is Good, and More is Better.....then Too Much, is Just Enough !! I’m assuming he’s talking about putting a camper shell over the bed, mounted to the top of the bed, as opposed to installing an actual camper in the bed.

Well, it's described as 'drop in', NOT 'drop on'...Just sayin' ____________________________________________________________ If Some is Good, and More is Better.....then Too Much, is Just Enough !! Agree that the meaning of the OP is nebulous. In any event, buying a “camper” actually designed for the specific vehicle will be more safe and satisfactory than jury-rigging something else.

Yes, it sits above the cab of the pickup about 12". But it is not a drop in cab over camper. You remove the tailgate as it has a frame and door to enter that covers the rear. The sides and front rest on the top of the bed rails. "Practice like you want to play in the game"

What dimension does the 70” and 73” refer to? A quick check of the internet says the inside bed rail to bed rail measurement of neither Dodge nor Chevy has exceeded 66.4”.

The insider bed rail measures about 64" the width of the rail is approx. 3" So that would be just under 70" outside dimension. I currently have a leer canopy on it. "Practice like you want to play in the game"

Gotcha. If the part that fits in the bed isn’t to wide either at the rails or at the wheel wells, then I would think bolting some 2x6 to the bedrails to give the camper some bearing would work. If the bottom of the camper is made to rest on the bed, then you’d have to make a frame for that as well.

Thanks guys, after talking with the owner more and getting more dimensions I cannot make it work. Not due to making it fit on the bed rails. But rather the rear frame where the door to enter the camper is. That is too wide and there is nothing I could do to remedy that unfortunately. It is a great unit and the price point was perfect and in great shape, so a bummer. My search continues. Thanks for the help. "Practice like you want to play in the game"
