I think bed people are ruining a good man’s name in the name of “justice”.
People nowadays can’t fathom “walk tall and carry a big stick”.
Fuck them.
I stand with and behind Sheriff Buford Pusser.

I think many of us don't have a clue about what goes on behind closed doors.
Could he have offed her? Yep. Did he? Who knows?

Seem's likely based on the article and current forensic tests he was a lair and most likely a murderer.

I’d have to lean to side with the evidence, even after decades have passed. Then look at odds & percentages, spouse dies, who is often implicated?
In modern times, their relationship would be dissected, less so back in the 60’s.
Here linked is a somewhat local case(N IL) of serious L.E. misconduct & a faked crime. It was big news at the time, yes, kinda unrelated.
I lived in that area briefly 40 years ago. FWIW there were rumors of a husband of Buford's mistress found dead in a pool under suspicious circumstances.
Alcohol may have been the primary factor in his fatal crash. He was allegedly quite inebriated that night, "Drunker than Cooter Brown" according to a lifetime local.
Don't know if these sources had a personal axe to grind with Buford or if there is some truth to these stories.

When I was married, my wife would not have put her butt into a patrol car with me under any circumstance. She was quite afraid of what might happen while with me on duty. I always wondered why Pusser wanted his wife with him in the car.

If Buford had a side chick, that automatically makes me suspicious.

Good to see all the other crimes in Tennessee have been solved. Really? You're working on a case where your prime suspect has been dead for 50 years!!??

Ask yourselves, what is the point of all of this? The principals are dead, a half-century or more. This "pursuit of justice" stuff, in this case, is horse shit.

I suspect District Attorney Mark Davidson has higher ambitions and not enough actual achievement.

Her death is considered a cold case. There are thousands of them. They stay open until solved. There are lots and lots of cold case investigations that are as old as this one. That is why there are cold case detectives. Many times solving them rights a wrong. They usually mean something to someone. Ymmv.

That's more horse shit.
This is not merely one of countless cold cases. This is being brought to the fore because of the notoriety- and legend- of Buford Pusser, and someone is trying to do two things: tear down the legend and make a name for their self or their agency.
I haven't looked closely in to all of this, but it stinks to high heaven.

Most likely based on new ways on dealing with evidence. As touched on it the linked article. Mister Pusser's legacy might well be that he is a liar, murderer and a lucky drunk driver that only killed hisself and not other innocent folks which is unfortunately what usually happens. Not a legend based on a silly fiction movie. But this should be about solving her murder and not about him unless the investigation and trial says he did it.
I would also be fine if they find the murderer and it turns out to be someone other than Pusser and he had no role in it.This message has been edited. Last edited by: old rugged cross,

After all this time here, you still don't realize I don't have to take shit from you or anyone else here. Twenty years and you're still acting like the FNG.
My opinions on the matter are not based upon a "silly movie" Mister Smart Shit.

It's not really 'new' evidence. The TBI has made the case files public for anyone interested. Apparently, the whole sorry 'reexamination' was the result of some podcasters and internet sleuths contacting TBI and hand feeding them 'information'. It's all speculative and the family of the deceased is involved. They believe they have come up with enough new speculation that if Pusser were alive today they could present evidence to a grand jury for an indictment.

I don't give two shits about Pusser. If I or my family was a victim of ANY crime in the state and it wasn't solved or the perpetrator hadn't been "brought to justice", I'd be beyond pissed. The fact that they were spending one minute of paid time or one dime of the budget on this (to pin it on someone who's been dead longer that most of them have been alive) would be incredibly insulting.

Are they that underworked that this case was a priority? So what's the point?
“It's not really 'new' evidence. The TBI has made the case files public for anyone interested.”
That’s what piqued my interest. Was there any suspicion back then or over the years given the evidence. The article mentions “new investigative techniques” not available back then but states nothing about the techniques that present anything new. What they mentioned as possibilities could be gleaned from crime scene photographs, certainly a technique available in 1967.
