Anyone into power sports? UTV selection help needed.
Mrs DF has decided she wants one of those UTV wilderness assault vehicles. Here’s my problem. She wants a four seater with a pickup style bed but doesn’t want one that looks like a stodgy golf cart. She wants a removable rigid top and a windshield. She’s cool with removable doors.

I just don’t know what the options are but maybe and enthusiast here could point the impaired in the right direction.

Also, she doesn’t want made in China.

Thanks in advance!

You're likely to have a panic attack when you see prices on the size/style she's looking for.

You can buy a pretty nice Jeep for what they go for.

You might want to call these folks in Utah. They've got hundreds of videos on YouTube, they could steer you right most likely.

Yamaha Viking of your choosing.
I really like Yamaha stuff. Have a 12 year old Yamaha Grizzly that does nothing but just work.

I bought a Polars Ranger 5 years ago that would fit your criteria. I sold it last year for $2,000 more than I paid for it because of how expensive these things have become.

Most of the big name companies will make something that fits your criteria.

This is usually one of those topics that everyone will point to the one they have without a ton of experience with several different models. I’m one of those because my Ranger was the only one I ever owned and it was flawless the entire time I had it.

The description in the OP sounds like a Jeep to me. The original, circa WWII, model, Willys or Ford.

Don't think I want to know what these might fetch nowadays.

10-4 on the Jeeps. I tried that route. Tried to get her into a first gen Tacoma 4 door. No joy. She doesn’t care that UTVs are stupid expensive. She wants one. She never asks for anything until now. So she’ll get one unless the world falls apart first. I’ll look into what has been suggested.

Yep.

I’ve already gone round and round on this for myself. I’m going with a Pioneer 1000. 3 seats but it has the engine and towing capability, and the bed. Once I optioned one out with roof, windshield, rear glass/canopy, a stereo, enclosed doors, etc, 23-24k. They are so expensive now I might just get an ATV instead (4 wheeler in old school terms).

I bought this Kawasaki Mule instead of a golf cart. Rear seat slides forward to make the bed longer.

How about a 4 seat Polaris General?

The 4 door models are huge. We have all 2 door models at the ranch and don't mind. If you want to go fast, the Can AM and Yamaha's are my favorite, and if you don't need to go fast the Kubota's are the ticket. Fortunately you can pretty much get any of the name brand models they are all pretty close, as long as you get the right style of unit, the sport models are good for nothing else but going real fast, the utility models are not sporty at all but are great for work, and the half and half models (Wolverine, General and such) are strongly tilted toward sport, and pretty much offer only token utility.

We were looking for a Yamaha Viking about this time last year. All the dealer allocations kept getting pushed out further, so we started over.

Drove the new Honda 6 seater and it was nice and very pricey. Ended up going CanAm. Very satisfied with the purchase. Got the HD10 Lone Star edition.
We use it daily.

My dad has a Mule Trans which replaced a Mule Pro. The Pro didn't do what he wanted as a utility UTV.

Check your state regs. Some places set forth width or wheelbase limits on certain trails. And then factor in costs, add on insurance, registration fees and requirements. And a trailer.
I would just look into a used Wrangler.

Polaris Crew XP 1000 is made in USA and would fit the wife's requirements.

Honda's Honda Pioneer 1000-6 Deluxe Crew is made in USA and also fits the wife's requirements.

The Polaris has a tad more front and rear suspension and 33% larger fuel tank.

Thank you for the suggestions. So far she's liking the Viking. This will be something we buy after we move to Tennessee in a couple of weeks. It will be used for ranch/homestead type work and she says she wants to be able to drive into town occasionally with it. She's talking about making it her primary vehicle. Don't know how practical that is. I suppose I'd better be prepared to adjust with her as she gets more experience. Thanks again!

Yamaha Viking sounds like a good choice to me. Personally I'd stay with Yamaha, Kawasaki, or Honda. Might look at Kawasaki's new FX Mule too.
