Great Alaska Sportsman's Show - I love how politically incorrect Alaska is...
So I took in the Great Alaska Sportsman's Show today. All kinds of hunting and fishing outfitters, knife makers, boat buildings, RV, ATV's, camping stuff, etc. Got all kinds of ideas for things to do when my daughter is up here this summer including a jet ski tour of Prince William Sound. Yep, put on a dry suit, get on a jet ski and go dodge floating ice from calving glaciers.

The thing that had me laughing was the kid's fishing tank. Arizona Fish and Game does something similar; a big aerated tank with all kinds of little Bluegill swimming in it. Kids catch a fish on a barbless hook, a volunteer runs over, helps them reel it in, lets them pose for a picture for it, then releases it back in the tank.

Not in Alaska!

First off the fish are good sized land locked salmon. No barbless hooks are used. A kid catches a fish, a volunteer runs over with a net and helps them land it, then clubs it over the head with a mini baseball bat, unhooks it and puts it in a plastic grocery bag for the kid to take home.

Have I mentioned that I love Alaska?

Excellent to hear.
The wife and I cannot wait to take our trip there.

Because son, it is what you are supposed to do.

That's great.

I wonder where Alaska sits on the Politically Correct scale? Hell, I'm not even sure where Missouri would sit but I think we would be close.

But...have you ever tried to clean a bluegill to eat it? There's barely enough meat on it to fill your fork. My daughter caught her first fish in our farm pond...she insisted on eating it.
