So, it looks like I will be spending a few days in Palm Springs at the end of February, courtesy of my wife's job.
Did a quick search and there's an aviation museum that looks interesting, plus a trip to Joshua Tree National Park is in the cards.

Any suggestions on other things to do/see while we are there?

Thanks!

If you care to drive just a little ways, check out Sunnlylands in Palm Desert. It's quite an estate which has hosted many political figures over the years. The story is fascinating if you're into that kind of thing.

The aviation museum in PS is a favorite haunt. And if you have enough time check out the museum in Chino

Or if you’re really brave take a ride up the mountain on the aerial tram

Take the tram to the top of San Jacinto and enjoy the trails and a bite to eat. If you've got the dosh, you can go for a ride in the PS air museums P51.

The aviation museum for sure. Not too far away is the dessert zoo, Great especially with kids.

Also. Pappy & Harriet’s

Just an Old school Americana roadhouse. Way out in the sticks not too far from town of Joshua tree Definitely reccomend making reservations. It’s an experience.

** edited to add: I was looking at heir website and see they changed ownership in 2021. I went before covid. Should still be fun to go if they managed to keep it going for 4+ years. Pictures of the interior look the same.

The tram is cool. You can take a hike when you get to the top. For dining, Sherman’s Deli is great. I’ve never eaten at their PS location but their Palm Desert location has always been great.

The stargazing at Joshua Tree was amazing if you are able to hit it after dark.

The tram is fantastic, take a jacket because it will be chilly up there. Give yourself some time up top, lots of neat shops and things to see.

Golf if you are so inclined.

Definitely do the tram and definitely bring a jacket.

There's toffee shop in town called Brandini Toffee that might be worth visiting if you have a sweet tooth ( https://brandinitoffee.com/ )

The most interesting thing I saw in the town of Palm Springs (other than Eisenhower Hospital) were the ladies of the town, most of whom had contributed greatly to the wealth of the local (or regional) plastic surgeons, with varying degrees of cosmetic success.

I went there about 5 years ago.
We arrived in the evening and took the Tram, well worth the ride to see the entire area lit up below.

We ate at a Mexican restaurant in Palm Springs, Shanghai Reds. I asked for a glass of Ginger Ale and was told they don't have it but the Bar tender will make it. It was the BEST ginger ale I ever had.

I'll second Shermans. Best deli in the west. A half corned beef and matzo ball soup will set you back years of wondering why you haven't eaten the best before.

Take a ride up to Idylwild too if you get the chance. Pretty artsy fartsy but hard to believe its so close to the desert with the views. Spent one of my honeymoons there.

I'll second Idyllwild as a cool place to visit. We went up on RT 74 and back on RT243, a very scenic drive. Also, a trip to Joshua Tree N.P. is not that far, we spent a day exploring it.

If your there on a Thursday evening go to the street fair, we had a great time. This was years ago and somethings might have changed but be careful parking. We had a Corvette and I found a good spot a couple of blocks away. As we were walking to the fair I asked a local cop if my car was OK there. He told me "It won't be there when you come back,", he meant stolen. He gave me a good tip on a place closer. free and safe!

We enjoyed visiting Shields Date farm when we were there. The restaurant is pretty decent, and the date ice cream was amazing.
