12 including DC and Hawaii, including Hawaii. Mostly western, but also Iowa, Virginia, and Texas. Could count 13 due to a short layover in Denver on my way to Iowa, but that doesn't seem to count to me.
But, this time next year we will be gearing up for the a road trip that will knock off the remainder. When we are in Washington again (on the road trip) we will likely do a cruise to Alaska to mark that off the list, with plans to do a more in-depth visit later on to knock off the national parks.

And on a related note: I have a bucket list item to do, drive the entire perimeter of the lower 48. The border, or as close as practical. So far I have only done from DC to New Orleans, Yeah, I'm beginning to think that's one I might not accomplish.

I’ve been to 39. That figure does not include states where I’ve just been in for airport layovers. I’ve had a stopover or at least got gas or a candy bar in each of those 39 states that I’ve been to. The states I need to visit to complete my 50 are WA, OR, ID, MT, WI, ND, SD, HI, MS, NM and LA.
