4 Roses (mentioned above) is pretty good.
I've found Jim Beam Black is comparable to Knob Creek and can usually be found at a lower price point.

I think Old Overholt makes a very good whiskey sour.

For a less expensive Irish Whisky try Paddy, it is quite good for $20 a fifth.

I am making a trip today to pick up a small bottle of Henry McKenna "entry level" bourbon. I like the 10 y/o 100 proof stuff.

Ancient Age was what we'd buy in Lebanon to take back to dry Pulaski County. Usual way to drink it was a shot with ice water chaser.

Buffalo Trace (who also produces Blantons) is in my opinion one of the best kept secrets in bourbon. It is as good as any of the pricy stuff, and always available.

Totally agree. Buffalo Trace is my absolute favorite. Very good for the modest price.

Black Box whiskey is pretty darn good. I'm not a whiskey snob but who would think whiskey in a plastic bag inside a cardboard box would be that good

WT101 and OGD 114 are my favorite cheaper bourbons. I don't drink enough volume to go any cheaper than that.

Already mentioned but Evan Williams bonded in bottled 4 years is amazing for 14 to 18 bucks.

Someone "gifted" me a bottle of some rotgot called "Pappy's something or another", took a sip, poured the bottle out.

Put a dried rose in the bottle and stuck on the mantle.

Bummer, the liquor store had no McKenna bourbon and when they do, the "entry level" McKenna only comes(to them) in a 1.75L size. I think that would be a real leap of faith the buy that much, never having tasted it before......oh well, so goes life.

Buffalo Trace is my favorite at the low price point. We love it in our house.

We t to buy some Buffalo Trace today then saw the price. Uh uh... not gonna happen! Around here at least, that stuff is priced up with the big boys! Oh well, will stick to Evan Williams or Jim Beam when possible.

Okay, gonna update this thread with some new info as I just tried something different, and it is a winner!

Had some time to spare a few days ago so stopped by a beverage store I don’t normally visit just to browse. Looked over the bottom shelf very carefully for the least expensive Kentucky bourbon that was NOT a blended whiskey, and I came up with a bottle I hadn’t noticed before... Kentucky Tavern. It was cheap enough so I bought it to give it a test run. Wow! I was impressed!!! Smooth... tasty... and just the right flavor for my palate!

So today after work I stopped in at my regular place that always has the lowest prices to see if they had it. One bottle left; 1.75L for $18.00... SOLD! Big Grin

I picked up Old Grandad for 19.95 in Omaha. Back here in WV, I pay 23.00 bucks for it. I like rye bourbon.

Buffalo Trace shouldn’t be considered a bottom shelf whiskey! However, Benchmark is quite good from the price point.

Old Bardstown is really good bourbon, period. The fact that it is less than $20 a fifth is just a bonus. Don't overlook Four Roses. Their single barrel is great but it's $40 a fifth. The yellow label is really good and less than $20. They have completely overhauled it. It used to be so bad it was only sold for export. Now it's right fine bourbon. The tour is great. I was fortunate to spend some time with their master distiller. Great guy and great bourbon.

Recently tried some Writer's Tears, very smooth and tasty. $30 for a 750ml bottle is not too bad. I'll be picking up some more.
