Ordered something from Primary Weapons Systems (PWS) yesterday and received their typical Order Confirmation/Receipt/Invoice within minutes. All legit. Then, 4 hours later, received another email (Invoice) supposedly from PWS Accounting with an attached pdf. Of course, I did not click on that shit, because I knew right away it was a phisher, even before hovering over the header which revealed the email to be bogus and not from PWS. Here is the classic "Kindly" that Nigerian/Indian/Pakistani scammers love to use.
Question is, how in the fuck did these assholes know I placed an order to PWS to have come up with such deceiving email? And within just hours. Really pissed me off. This message has been edited. Last edited by: 12131, Q

It's been a while since I bought anything directly from PWS but it is possible they follow up with PDF's. I agree it is better to be safe than sorry however, you could call PWS Service and ask them if they send out invoices that way?

More likely it’s on PWS's end. They would be more of a target than one end user would be. If it was to happen to you again from other places then worry about your end. Forward the email to PWS with an explanation and let them look into it. “We truly live in a wondrous age of stupid.” - 83v45magna "I think it's important that people understand free speech doesn't mean free from consequences societally or politically or culturally." -Pranjit Kalita, founder and CIO of Birkoa Capital Management

Could be PWS using marketing service apps that are being harvested for purchaser's info. A lot of that goes on with outsourced coding, apps, and such tools, from being poorly coded, or by intent on the part of those that create the apps. The folks at PWS need to have someone in there IT world to investigate it. "the meaning of life, is to give life meaning" ✡ Ani Yehudi אני יהודי Le'olam lo shuv לעולם לא שוב!

I get frequent phishing scam e-mails that look official until you look closely, particularly check the sender’s details for the actual e-mail address. Yesterday got one purporting to be Chase bank which I used. Fortunately called Chase and they confirmed it’s a phishing scam. Also lately a number of PayPal “invoices” to pay; and MacAfee “invoices”. The number of these now is maybe 4-5 times what it was a year ago. _________________________ “Remember, remember the fifth of November!"

I did fire off an email to PWS. Waiting to see what they have to say. I would shocked if it was legit. Q

** UPDATE **: Got response from PWS, "Hi Q, This is legit our accounting department sends out invoices as well, if it is a online order..." One of those rare times that I'm glad to have egg on my face. Q

In a day and age where people are rarely man enough to admit they were wrong, it’s refreshing to see someone own a mistake. I’m not at all surprised that you’re man enough to do so! Thanks for the follow-up, and I agree; this is a great time to have egg on your face! Have a very Happy Thanksgiving, Q. This year, I’m especially thankful for great Americans like yourself, and many others on this fine forum!

Better to be safe than sorry. Their language in the follow-up email is odd for a US-based company.
