architectNew Crime Trend
Whether you have cash on you or not does not seem to be particularly relevant. It is what the assailant thinks that matters in a situation like this. So walking around with no cash won't make a difference to a dude that thinks you might have something worthwhile to steal, and is desperate to get some funds for his next fix.

YooperSigsThe general tactic common with these robberies the scrote or scrotes bail out of a car and/or come charging at you at full speed with their guns out and aimed. They are on you quick and this makes an instant response a must. This kind of attack is hard to train for on the static ranges most of us shoot on. Be quite a challenge to come out on top of an encounter like this!

jsbcodyNot new crime at all. It has been happening for years at Casinos, banks, and Black Friday sales(they will follow people home who purchased three or four big screen TVs. Save the address for a burglary later on that weekend).
Best defense is situational awareness and of course, also carrying a pistol. One method for car carry is a nice comfortable cross draw holster.

Did you watch the video? "Jugging" (i.e. jumbo mugging) is about turds waiting outside the bank for people making large cash withdrawals. The victims with large amounts of cash are being targeted and followed to gas stations, c-stores, home, back to work, etc. then mugged.
In Houston, they're also targeting people flashing wads of cash at jewelry stores.

sigfreundWhether they are new or unique or not, well-publicized increases in certain crimes matter and like any other aspect of situational awareness, it’s good to be familiar with them.
Those guys killed a bunch of fellow students at their school and everyone will remember them forever. What a good idea.
That trans man shot up a school and not only did he draw attention to the injustice we face, he will be remembered forever. What a good idea.
A pilot killed a plane load of unbelievers and went to Paradise because he deliberately crashed his airliner. What a good idea.
A group of people who think like me started a riot and attracted a lot of attention without suffering any bad consequences. What a good idea.
A type of robbery with a good payoff and little risk is to follow and attack someone who has just withdrawn money from a bank. What a good idea.
Unlike the others, the last is something the individual can actually take measures to avoid and therefore is particularly important to be aware of.

PoacherI carry, but getting it from under my shirt and seatbelt is not going to be quick, so I have a Gum Creek holster mounted under my steering wheel with a G30 in it. You road rage and come to my window? Hello .45. Gassing her up? Door open and easy access if it’s faster than drawing.
SA is still your best friend though, but 7,500 lbs of truck works well to.

jljonesIf your planning on this revolves around a firearm choice, you have already lost. You can reduce most of the risk without even carrying a gun. Businesses that move cash deposits follow simple rules and procedures and more often than not come and go without incident.
The biggy is a trait shared by just about all in the above video. They all carried themselves prior to the attack like a victim. These yutes pick their marks. And believe it or not, often the weigh their liability in a mark. If the mark is making eye contact with them, keeping their head up, and appearing to be sizing up the lay of the land, most of the time they’ll bypass that target. Not all the time but most. Their surprise is blown at that point.
Driving with intent. Most drivers are driving as a secondary skill. They are either scrolling on their phone or even just talking on it. And not paying a bit of attention to what goes on around them. They don’t use tactics like stopping short in traffic, staying out of the center lane, and changing routes. Offensive driving opens up a lot of options.
I mentioned keeping your nose out of your phone. It’s an addictive habit amd predators capitalize on it.
If you think you’re either going to point a gun at them or shoot at them and they’ll scatter, you don’t understand. Most of these suspects have been shot at. A lot. And more than a few have already been shot. I know probably a half dozen kids under the age of 15 that have already been shot more than once. As in on separate occasions. I know of an agency that responded recently to a large party that ended in gunfire. Two of the kids there were recovering from their second gunshot wound. One was on crutches and the other was shot in the hand. After being shot twice in Memphis within a year, the one on crutches was sent to live with his aunt to get him out of the city. Just three weeks after being shot the second time, he is at a party and the shooting starts. It’s something they are used to.
The best way to avoid this is good planning and sound tactics. Planning to shoot your way out of it should be the last resort. You may get one. Or maybe two. But three or four will still win. I’m
Not even that fast.

mark60There's no escape route if you're in the center lane. Defensive driving dictates always having an escape route.

Being in the center lane at a stoplight leaves you no place to go. Same is left lane if there’s a left turn lane next to you. Always leave an out. It’s like always look for a place to land the plane.

gearhoundsJones is spot on when it comes to appearing alert and cognizant. Thieves want the element of surprise irregardless of the age bracket. I taught my kids to keep their heads on a swivel at all times while driving at all times and hope it sticks beyond when the car is in motion. I also tell them when coming to a stop for lights/signs/traffic backups to leave enough room between them and the car ahead to have an avenue of escape if it should ever become necessary for whatever reason.
I also advise them to keep the doors locked while driving to discourage “lazy” carjackers that may not seem fully committed to the jacking, and not to sit around waiting to see if they actually are.

Very possible. Also, some people are so oblivious that they walk out of the bank with a think envelope full of cash in their hand. For example, the guy in the video who lost $60k that stack of cash would have been 2.58" thick.
Assuming the bank bundle banding info I read is accurate, the turds would know that:
100 $50 bills (aka $5k) is brown and the stack is 0.43" thick
100 $100 bills (aka $10k) is mustard and the stack is 0.43" thick

Aglifter@gearhounds I wouldn't touch that stuff with a 10' pole.
90% certain it is too close to be considered anything but counterfeit.

The bills are clearly marked as fakes to anyone taking a second to verify validity. The point is that they look real enough at first glance to fool robbers bent on a quick job and even faster getaway. And chances are very slim that you’ll ever get to fool these miscreants with them as statistically these robberies don’t happen very often. I’d wager that a stack in a bank envelope would be extremely convincing to a thief until HE tried to pass one and got arrested for it.

I'm reminded of something I read in a gun magazine (back when I read them and they had at least some useful info). As best as I remember it, several notable trainers were asked if they preferred A, [insert choice of cheap gun, e.g., Hi-Point] and warning/time to make ready; or B, [insert choice of high-dollar custom gun] and no warning. Every one answered the former.
