I am in the Super Auto group as well -- fresh beans and locally roasted are really my only rules for the machine.

Day to day, it's the drip machine. I haven't done a French press in a long time. I should fix that. I make myself an espresso every once in a while, too. -ShneaSIG Oh, by the way, which one's "Pink?"

For at least 20 years I've used a French press. I buy whole bean coffee & grind it at home. My wife uses the Kurig because she doesn't want the bother of boiling water & waiting a few minutes for the coffee to brew in the press. ------------------------------------------------ "It's hard to imagine a more stupid or dangerous way of making decisions, than by putting those decisions in the hands of people who pay no price for being wrong." I like my coffee black and strong. We've had a French press for years and a couple of grinders. Seldom use them. A $25 5 year old drip machine is everyday. I get about a qt in me by 10 am or so and I'm through with it for the day. ________________________ God spelled backwards is dog

Cold brew if I want it cold. Pour over when I want just a cup. French press if I'm making enough to share.

I use a good old percolator. It takes about 10 minutes to make a pot but it is really good. By the way a few grounds of coffee in your cup isn't going to hurt you, think of it as fiber.

It seems i have spent a lifetime searching for that perfect cup of coffee. I have tried them all, believe me, but I always seem to find my way back to a drip maker. I have a programmable Mr. Coffee that always seems to make that perfect cup for me. As far as the coffee itself goes, I use Folgers Colombia blend. .....never marry a woman who is mean to your waitress.

Pour over, cold brew and from my espresso machine. I guess I’d be “other” in the poll.

I keep meaning to order/buy (LGS carries them now) some of their kcups, but my stock gets replenished in the weekly grocery run before I remember to tell my wife to hold off. The Enemy's gate is down.

You really ought to give the AeroPress a try, smschulz. Especially with one of these: Altura The Mesh: Premium Filter For Aeropress Coffee Makers + Free Ebook With Recipes, Tips, And More, Stainless Steel, Washable and Reusable. Lifetime 100% Guarantee, rather than the paper filters. All the flavour of a French press with far easier cleanup. I don't even use the drip maker any more, unless we have more than a single couple as company. My wife retired her French press. "America is at that awkward stage. Whole or ground decaf beans, usually from BJs or whoever has a sale. Cheap drip machine that you have to turn on yourself. 1/4-1/2 tsp sugar in the cup, add hot coffee, then add about 2 tsp dry milk. Let dissolve, then remove floating blobs of dry milk that didn't dissolve, if any. Drink. Repeat 2 times.

Was that you or the dog? |
I fill a travel mug using a Keurig as I head out the door in the morning. Making a pot would be a waste. If I am home for an extended period such as the holidays, I'll bust our a french press and grind some Starbucks Pike's Roast. ___________________________ "Opinions vary" -Dalton

This whole thread has gotten me into thinking of taking the next step up. I've been buying roasted whole bean coffee, and then grinding it just before brewing. So what about buying green (unroasted) bean coffee and roasting it myself? I found Burman Coffee Traders where a pound of green Costa Rican Terrazu goes for $5.39, a pound of Ethiopian Yirgacheffe can be had for $6.90 (shipping extra, but reasonable). They also sell a variety of home roasters, but they have instructions for doing it other ways. I'm tempted to buy their most popular roaster, the Freshroast SR 500 bundle, which includes 3 pounds of coffee and a free gift (choice of coffee mug, 2 lbs. Guatemalan, 8 ounces green tea, or Home Coffee Roasting Book). $180 w/ free shipping. You can't truly call yourself "peaceful" unless you are capable of great violence. Usually drip, but on occasion I make it in a French press. A couple days ago I brewed up some Turkish coffee w/ cardamom. I grind the beans right before I brew the coffee. I prefer Starbucks Dark Roasts. Loyalty Above All Else, Except Honor ΜΟΛΩΝ ΛΑΒΕ
