That was shameful.

Butch could have earned some respect if he had turned that into a teaching moment.

As it was, they lost and Butch earned nothing.

The next NFL kneeler, assuming the twit gets that far. Of course his unsportsman crude action just bumped his stock up significantly in NFL terms.

for the brief moment I turned this game on, I saw that act. What a class act. If the school/AD/Coach had any balls, this guy would be off the team.

Societal disconnect at its best. These characters really, down deep in their heart socket, think that because they can run or catch or whatever, that they are somehow above everyone else, that they have no accountability, suffer no consequences, and week by week, we, as a society, reaffirm this belief until they tear an achilles at which time we dump them on the 'didn't he use to play football or guitar or something?" trash heap.

And then they have a surprised look on their face.

First off, I'm a lifelong Bama fan, so I love to see UT imploding. I do follow UT because I live north of Knoxville, so can't really avoid it and listen to local sports radio.

He was actually signalling that this game was the 11th in a row that they have lost to Bama Big Grin

On the other hand, he came out into the press room after the game and apologized.

quote:
"First off, I want to make an apology to the University of Tennessee and the University of Alabama for my gesture after the pick six by Daniel Bituli. That remark that I showed was very out of character. That's not how my parents raised me. That's not how a leader of the team should show their emotions on the field. I sincerely apologize to the student section of Alabama for disrespecting them."

I guess that means Florida State needs to start looking for a coach since Jimbo Fisher challenged a fan to a fight going off the field yesterday.

That’s class. Pure class.

Glad I didn’t waste any time on this game. Looks like another guy taking up space in a class room just to play ball.

What joke.

you're making an assumption about him knowing what a classroom is, let alone where one might be

it has the word 'class' in it - something sorely lacking with this thug

Isn't that what college football is all about? That's the impression I've had, anyway.

Football scholarships are supposed to be about making higher learning accessible to those that can't afford it, but can play sports. But don't the vast majority of people on such scholarships merely "get by" in school and use their playing time in school as a springboard to pro sports?

Hell, not long ago NCAA players wanted to organize. How does that have anything to do with education?

Who's "we," paleface?

I have argued for some time that college sports is no less a corruption of the whole idea of sports than is pro sports. That opinion is validated again and again by the players, their management and their fans.

Somebody in the "NFL kneeling" thread, I think it was, bemoaned the loss of a bit of Americana in the steady decline of the NFL's popularity. My feeling is that if pro and college sports are reflective of America: Good riddance. Because they don't reflect my values, that's for damn sure!

That's a bad impression. Actually only about 1.6% of college players make it to a professional team. That's about 300 out of 15,588 who make it onto a professional roster. After 4 years, that number drops to about 150 or less than 1% of college players.

Less than .08% of high school seniors will be drafted by an NFL team.

Most of the rest go on to other careers outside of sports.
