I was struggling with a part replacement on my bike. Took the bike shop for some help - they did what I needed in literally under 2 minutes, perhaps even under 1 minute. Amazing what the right setup and tool can do. They didn't charge me. Would you guys just accept it as karma? Or should I go back and pay something, give a tip or whatever? What's typical behavior these days? I feel odd not paying anything. But had I been the repairman, I don't think I would have charged anything either so not sure why I feel odd. Yup, planning to buy a new bike from them next spring whenever they have a sale on a Roscoe 7 or equivalent. But that's loosely coupled to this help - not explicitly associated. But if that's all they want, then we're all good. ![]() "Wrong does not cease to be wrong because the majority share in it." If it is on your mind then obviously you feel you should do something. What took them one minute with the right tools and knowledge doesn't mean it was only one minute of value. How long would it have taken you, could you even do it? I bet something as simple as a package of ice cream cones from walmart, or a big sack of Skittles would make them feel very appreciated and you would be relieved that you at least gave them some of the karma they threw at you. This would also pay dividends for future purchases as they might get to know you personally and remember you as a good customer for future discounts. First In Last Out

If the guy that did the work was an employee, then a tip would be good. If it was the shop owner, then future business and reminding him that you've returned because of his kindness would be nice. "It did not really matter what we expected from life, but rather what life expected from us. We needed to stop asking about the meaning of life, and instead to think of ourselves as those who were being questioned by life – daily and hourly. Our answer must consist not in talk and meditation, but in right action and in right conduct. Life ultimately means taking the responsibility to find the right answer to its problems and to fulfill the tasks which it constantly sets for each individual." I would thank them, and put them at the top of my list all things bicycle related. I am sure, though, that a box of donuts would not go amiss. The fish is mute, expressionless. The fish doesn't think because the fish knows everything.

I second the donuts, or maybe kolaches if there is a good place to get 'em. Right when they open cause I image a bike shop is pretty slow at the opening bell. Plus milk and orange juice. How much of either depends on how many are in the place usually, plus some extra. It all says you went out of your way to thank them. They will remember you.

I'm with the doughnuts crowd, drop off a box of a decent brand some weekday morning. Also, regarding the specific bike purchase you have in mind, let the mechanic who helped you know, and tell him to call you when the bike goes on sale so as to make sure he gets the commission.

I think it would be OK to just accept it. The guy feels good about doing a good deed with no thought of renumeration, as he should. Or maybe if you like leave a good review online.
