I was a volunteer in the radio room at the California Office of Emergency Services (their old facility a few years before they moved to a much modernized facility).

I remember hearing radio reports that some of the horse race betting machines going offline in New Jersey. Colorado called us after they passed midnight with no problems. Alaska called us after we passed midnight to ask if we'd experienced any problems (we had not). They mentioned that they would relay that information to Hawaii so they would have a status update.

At work, I had been asked a few months earlier to check on some programs I had developed to pull records for growth of device usage for fiscal purposes. I was able to report fairly quickly that my programs used relative dates in calculations, and all Y2K dates were display only. I had only limited program development experience to that point, and was complimented on the way I had coded dates in them.

No idea. Can’t remember.

Our little suburb had a fireworks show and a few other activities. I was there with my GF and some friends. I had broken my hand earlier that month when I flipped a 4 wheeler. I also worked for a computer company that did a lot of fixes for Y2K.

I had a friend that bought several cases of water and probably 500 rolls of toilet paper. Haha.

I was on call at work. Waiting to deploy 300 stop signs when the power was supposed to go out at signals through out the city. Easy overtime.

Adjusted for timezone, at this time of night, I was (no shit) marching through almost waist-deep snow 200 yards out to the pole barn in the woods dragging a plastic sled behind me, loading it up as heavy as I could with firewood, and doing my best to smoothly drag it back behind me in all that uneven snow to load up the woodbox for the stove because my parents were concerned there might be problems with the power grid. Since the sled was plastic and flimsy, it kept flexing enough that the return trip was slower going than it needed to be, but I loaded that woodbox.

Then my old man bought a Pay-Per-View of UFC's best bouts and we stayed up until about 1am. Power never went out, we were plenty warm. It's a night I'll probably never forget.

I was backing up my entire hard drive onto a bazillion floppy discs. I made two complete backup sets. --- Just in case

I didn't expect anything, but did not want to risk suffering the consequences if it did.

Drinking way too much in a dive bar with a friend of mine.

Tonight I’m 100% sober hanging out with my mom and My wife.

Putting up insulation till late evening on a new construction duplex that was scheduled to begin drywall on 1/2/2000. After dinner I went to bed.

Partying with my girlfriend now wife. I was driving, so I was sober like a preacher on Sunday. She got destroyed. She ended up puking in my buddy’s apartment toilet.

She’s sitting next to me on the couch now and my daughter had her 10th birthday tonight.

I was on patrol with a partner that night. We were doubled up that night due to all of the hype.

I was in bed by 9pm.
I had to be at work at 4am on new years day for no reason other than I was the new guy.
Did absolutely nothing for 8 hours except make a phone call to California to make sure the system did not go down.
Everyone said I missed the millennium turn over. I told them no I did not it does not happen till next year.

I snooze through most New Year's Eves. For that particular one, I did make sure I filled my vehicles with gas and had some groceries, some peanut butter, to last a couple of days.

I did the same thing then as I do every year.

Last night I made a great dinner, hanger steak with caramelized onions and mashed cauliflower with fresh black truffles.

Asleep by 10:00.

Assuming the Morning Watch Operations Lieutenant post at FMC Lexington, KY. Those days, thankfully, are over.

20 years ago....I would have been working! I most likely volunteered to work, since I'm not much of a partier.

I was 14 so my guess was lighting every firework I could get my hands on!

Was at sea aboard the USS Stephen W Groves FFG-29. Was a Data Systems Technician. Awoke 01Jan00 to find my AN/UYK-7 computers hadn't spit the bit. I really didn't know if they'd still be working or not. The Y2K Millennium bug problem was a thing. We'd received software patches for it but still didn't know what might happen.

I was a DoD program manager. We had operational software on about 150 ships. Software that operators interfaced with and launched weapons.

We had gone through extensive testing in 1999 to be sure everything would be safe and operational.

I had to sign a certification letter that our software programs were Y2k certified.

We had found a few things we had to fix, but we were confident we would be ok.

But if anything had gone wrong, I would have been a "former program manager" immediately.

We were getting reports in for the next few days and all went well.

At home with my wife and kids (who were 2 and 4). We had a nice dinner and watched TV. A little before midnight I went upstairs to check on both kids. They were sound asleep, I kissed them both. At midnight I was outside having a beer and a cigar, observing that the world seemed to have made it, and being thankful for what I had.
