probably a good thing I don't have a cut |
I was scrolling thru the Foxnews website and saw that Aubrey Plaza's husband had died. I just clicked on it out of curiosity to see if any foul play was involved. Didn't really say the first day. The story was updated yesterday and said he committed suicide. Okay. How exactly? Didn't say. Checked a couple of other news sites and it wasn't readily obvious anywhere I looked what the cause of death was beyond "Suicide". I had to check Wikipedia to find out it was death by hanging. What is the reasoning behind not saying that in the news stories?

I had to look up who she was and see that she's Hoyllwood. They never seem to release cause of death for celebs until they can't hide it any longer.

Just because you can, doesn't mean you should |
I think they are especially cautious when it's a suicide out of respect to the family (as it should be). Not sure why it would be so essential for the public to know the details in something like this case. ___________________________ Avoid buying ChiCom/CCP products whenever possible.

Seems like morbid curiosity to need to know the exact method of suicide.

That's what I'm thinking. The death is noteworthy, the reason for death is noteworthy, but the method is not so noteworthy.

If the wife wasn't a Hollywood actress, which I had no idea who she was, his death wouldn't even have registered a beep on the news sites. Q

I read somewhere that he hung himself. Really sad to feel that is the best way out.

The UK Daily Mail was reporting that he was found dead of hanging pretty early on. I notice they tend to report and cover things US outlets will not.

As tragic as it must be for the family, do we really need to know?

Friend who's a LEO was saying copycat suicides is a thing, people that are 'on the edge' find inspiration in how others do themselves-in. Is the news actively trying to hide this...perhaps a bit but, I think its more a case of the method used is unimportant: Kurt Cobain killed himself, bummer. He did it in his house, high on heroin, damn. His left behind a daughter who was less than 2yrs old when he off'd himself, WTF. He took a shotgun to his head...ok, didn't need to hear that.
Because the Mail is a combination of USA Today & check stand tabloids, catchy headlines, lots of imagery and minimal content.

Sure it has a good bit of tabloid type stuff but they also report hard news WAY before many of our outlets do. I can't tell you how many times I've gotten info from the DM that US new outlets will actively censor or ignore because it doesn't fit their agenda.

The news about his death popped up on my iphone news. I just clicked to find out who she was. When I recognized her face, my curiosity was satisfied as I wondered how someone's husband dying makes the news. Beyond that, I wasn't interested. I just recognized her for her deadpan delivery of punchlines during press interviews. Maybe she talked that way in real life and he couldn't take it anymore. But your question reminds me of a bigger question I've had in the back of my mind. It's my impression that suicides in the military have been significantly higher than when I was in. That's a bigger and more important question for me than the death of a Hollywood actress' husband. "It did not really matter what we expected from life, but rather what life expected from us. We needed to stop asking about the meaning of life, and instead to think of ourselves as those who were being questioned by life – daily and hourly. Our answer must consist not in talk and meditation, but in right action and in right conduct. Life ultimately means taking the responsibility to find the right answer to its problems and to fulfill the tasks which it constantly sets for each individual." Why do you care how he ended himself? I saw he died. Then learned who he was married to. Then moved on with my life.

It's the same way when a young high school or college athlete dies which there seems to have been an uptick in over the last couple years. They never mention the actual cause. Just that young athlete X collapsed on the field and could not be revived. Considering most if not all of these people were forced to be vaccinated it does not leave much guess work. Not reporting the cause only confirms it in my mind. "Fixed fortifications are monuments to mans stupidity" - George S. Patton

Quite a few people don't care how this guy committed suicide. They don't care so much they have to let everyone know they don't care by replying in this thread. Feels like virtue signaling in reverse. I'm not particularly interested in who he was or why he committed suicide, just curious why they wouldn't say how. I don't remember the press being so squeamish about it in the past.

The way it works: Husband of Actress HFGG found dead this morning. Long time band member of heyaorj found deceased in his car. Veteran and father of 3 committed suicide by hanging himself. If you're goin' through hell, keep on going. Don't slow down. If you're scared don't show it. You might get out before the devil even knows you're there. NRA ENDOWMENT LIFE MEMBER

On a smaller scale, the Navy does this too. “One of our fellow Sailors died, …”. No, they committed suicide. Very unpopular opinion, but I don’t view suicide the same as being killed or dying. I feel for the families the same way but not the individual. I know many won’t agree, especially those touched by suicide closely. But that’s just my opinion of course. As to the OP, I thought the same thing when I read the same articles. I love me some Aubrey Plaza. Not even knowing she was married I felt bad that she lost someone close to her so I too was invested in the article and wondered, ”what the heck happened?” 10 years to retirement! Just waiting!
