Green grass and high tides |
Doing some prep for dinner and having my phone on the counter a qt. of stewed tomatoes ended up in part all over my phone. Made some weird electrical noises and started doing some screen stuff on its own before I could shut it off. Wiped it off and have not tried to turn back on. My guess is it is fried. I know its an old phone. But been a very good unit. Any words of wisdom? "Practice like you want to play in the game"

Thank you Very little |
Place it on a plate of dry fettuccini to draw the tomato sauce out Turn it back on, if it works, use it, if not, find a YouBreakIFix type of shop to work on it, or, go on Woot and find yourself a replacement phone eye fone 7 is $99 but I'd opt for a later model like the XR for its ability to wireless charge and handle Apples upgrades for a while. The earliest model iPhone thad ha wireless charging was the iPhone 8. The next major release, iPhone X dropped Touch ID and added Face Recognition. הרחפת שלי מלאה בצלופחים

Thanks HRK, I did turn it on. Sounds funny now But is working for now. I do have an I phone 6 I can put into service if I need to. Not optimal, but should work I think if need be. "Practice like you want to play in the game"

I dunno, that sounds like more penne than it's worth. In all seriousness, I'm glad it's working. If I was you I'd be doing a backup ASAP in case it decides to shit the bed again permanent-like. "In order to understand recursion, you must first learn the principle of recursion."

Thanks Vul, how is a "back up" done? "Practice like you want to play in the game"

Hook it up to a computer and make copies of everything you want to save. That's the easiest way to do it. That's an Android phone, correct? There are a few companies that make software to automate the process. I've used FonePaw on my old Pixel, and while it works it's SLOW when it comes time to recover. But the tradeoff is that it takes care of messages, images, contacts, and more without really having to know what you're doing. The Bad News: Many carriers are cutting support for the iPhone 6. The 6S and the SE are the oldest models that these carriers support. The Good News: swappa offers pre-owned (and even some new) phones at decent prices. Or, if you're a veteran, you can get a refurbished iPhone directly from Apple at a good discount. הרחפת שלי מלאה בצלופחים

does "no support" mean it won't work or that it just will not receive updates, etc. "Practice like you want to play in the game"

I don't know about other carriers, but T-Mobile is terminating support for devices that don't support VoLTE (Voice over LTE). So, for example, my old Moto G (2nd or 3rd gen., IIRC) would not work at all any longer. What happened to your Moto G5 illustrates one reason we abandoned Moto and, ultimately, Android. After Google sold Motorola Mobility to Lenovo, the next iteration of the Moto G series eliminated water resistance. To this day I'm still pissed Google sold a profitable American company that was making product right here in the USA to a Chinese company--who then, of course, moved everything to China and cheapened the product. We may return to Android, depending upon what Apple ultimately does or does not do wrt CSAM, but it is very, very unlikely we'll ever again own "Moto" devices. "America is at that awkward stage. I haven't tried it myself but I watched a youtube video of a guy who put his water soaked phone in a bag of uncooked rice for a few days. Seems it worked when he removed it. Maybe worth a try. You’re a lying dog-faced pony soldier

That's the standard recommended remedy for non-waterproof electronics that get wet. Turn it off (if it didn't shut off automatically), then stick it in a bag of uncooked rice for several days. It's not a 100% guarantee that it'll fix it, but it works in some situations, and it's worth a shot.

Problem here is stewed tomatoes, along with whatever else was in the mix, isn't water. There are acids and all kinds of nasties in there. Unless you get it all out, it will eventually eat the innards. Back when I was in the commercial video game business I was dispatched to a customer to conduct tech training. One day the guy I was training brings back a motherboard upon which had leaked Lord-knows-what. (Mixed drinks, beer, what-have-you.) "Watch this," I told him. Took the board into the office kitchen, turned on the water, grabbed the brush used to wash coffee cups and the like, dipped it in the soap, put the board under the water, and proceeded to scrub the mobo. The. Guy. Freaked. Out. Then I shook it out, patted it dry, turned on a small desk fan, and set the board in front of it to finish drying. Worked like a champ afterwards My wife once ran her flip phone through part of the tub fill phase of the wash. I turned the oven on as low as it would go, put the phone in there, made sure the door would stay propped open a bit, and "baked" it for 2-3 hours. Worked fine, afterwards. probably so. It has been working like a champ for the last day. So we'll see. It might be short lived. I suspect so. But will run it out till the end I guess. Not much else can be done that I can see. Thanks guys. I am still not sure whether the I phone 6 I bought here can be used on the verizon network. I hope so as I might need it.
