Mac Auto-Correct
I have to double and triple check everything that I type. Steenkin' auto-correct changes things that I do NOT want changed.

Is there a way to set this "feature" to indicate alleged errors, without changing them?

I would like actual spelling errors to be pointed out or highlighted, but I do not want "corrected" spelling to be the default.

Example: In a thread about a pilot running out of fuel, I typed gph (gallons per hour) when discussing rate of fuel consumption. After posting, I noticed that autocorrect had changed "gph" to "mph." Mad

I think you have "correct spelling automatically" enabled.

One of the things you can do is add "errors" to your personal dictionary, but that only helps so much. Proofreading trumps auto-correct.

Yeah, I found that and turned it off. We'll see how it goes.

Interestingly, I've found dictating a text to have fewer errors than finger-typing + autocorrect.

Dictating is very good. Just be careful if you have Voice Control activated. It will type in everything you say into any text input field. Try adding a Contact and then start yakking, you will find whatever Contact field you were in is filled with conversation. There is a Voice Control command for disabling this function, but I can never remember it (or remember to use it).

Speaking of using the dictating function... I have a plan to use this to write my autobiography ... Mark Twain did this over a hundred years ago... had a lady come in every morning and he dictated to her for several hours and then she turned her written notes over to another person who typed it out... ended up being 3 volumes over 700 pages each....
