If they can't twist it for their political ends, its not worth their time to run it.

I'm 20 miles away. I can smell the smoke and see a bit of haze outside. There are rumors that it was started by people, not sure of anymore details as I don't have access to local TV broadcasts. I heard that the fire crews are having trouble with looky-loos and people flying personal drones around. The have issued a TFR for the area.

Here’s an update I just received… 500 of the parks 800 acres have burned so far.

Latest report on the TV news says "unattended campfire" as the cause.

That’s too bad about it being man-caused. We had a big fire a few years ago called the Bighorn fire and it burned up a substantial portion of the Santa Catalina range here. It was caused by multiple lightning strikes.

That’s a shame it looks like this was a man made fire. NC is very DRY right now and desperately could use some rain. We live on a small lake and the water level is almost a foot down from its norm right now it’s the lowest I’ve ever seen our lake.

Does anyone know if the top part of Pilot Mountain burned up? I wonder if the part where you park and can walk around the big pinnacle survived? The views from up there are incredible. I remember seeing a section of forest that burned the last time we visited.
