I was warming up something in the microwave and put a paper plate on top of the cup so it wouldn't splatter. Silly me, I failed to read the underside of the plate. Who'd a thunk. The rest of the plates got thrown in the trash. | ||

Crazy. Would never expect that. My microwave started arcing inside like a Terminator war. Turned out there is a plate covering the magnatron that got chipped. Simple fix surprisingly. These go to eleven. | |||

I wasn't aware that there were paper plates that were unsafe in a microwave, but I did know that all paper plates were flammable. I don't usually have paper plates in the house. I have a couple of small green glass plates that I use as covers when I heat food in the microwave--they are a handy size that just fits over the ceramic pot I use to heat soup or chili, and they're easy to wash. I'm glad that the damage with the OP was limited to the plate. I've not heated a raw egg in the microwave, either (I don't keep shelled eggs). I use the cheap white plates, no problems. (Usually for things that spatter, like soup with them exploding peas), so I am not having to wash the plastic cover thingy, otherwise I use the plastic cover. Some plates use recycled paper and have crap that microwave majik hates, and some have metallic dyes in the ink, or some paper compounds will heat up more than others. Yes it does. This was one of those small party or birthday plates. This was more of a warning and a "don't ever let this happen to you" post. | |||

Same thing happened to me. The wife bought a set of cool looking cups off Amazon, also made in China, and they got so hot when you nuked them in the microwave you could literally burn your hands. They should of had a warning. They also got pitched. .....never marry a woman who is mean to your waitress. | |||
