It's a pretty cool looking place with everything including parks included. Going with the wife and 2 adult (18 and 22) children.

Yes, I know, the cartels are going to kidnap us and Mexico is hell. But we are going.

We did the zip line park (Carnival cruise excursion) at Xcaret in Playa del Carmen, it was a blast & took most of a day.

I was at Xcaret park years ago when it was just a park. Now it's several parks and hotels.

So if you are flying into Cancun Airport, be prepared to have vendors come at you aggressively for a rides and things to do while there as you exit the airport. Just ignore them and keep walking. Also its best to have a ride to your resort arranged in advance.

I've gone twice to nice resorts, had a great time in Mexico.

Xcaret is all inclusive from the minute you get to the airport. They have a lounge at the airport to wait for the bus to take us to the resort. It's a pretty cool system. I'm not worried about the vendors. I have what's been described as a "constant look of hate" that tends to keep the vendors at bay.

According to the "news" a couple nights ago, the latest State Dept. warning is about taxis and Uber. Apparently the Mexican government has decided Uber is a legitimate taxi service and will be allowed to operate in Mexico.

Predictably, there has been violence, with customers occasionally caught in the crossfire.

I do not understand, will never understand, why people roll the dice like this, but, to each their own. Good luck and I hope you have a great time.

Since I’m not taking a taxi or Uber I don’t expect any issues.

20+ years ago we went to xcaret and it was a zoo/water park then. Not a resort that I recall. If it’s hotter than blazes the float tube in river is a nice cool refreshing thing to do.

I’ve been using Uber in Mexico for the last several years, and I’ll be in Mexico City at the end of the month. After visiting Iztapalapa many times, I’ll take it over the bad areas of our big cities, and Iztapalapa is not an area that I recommend for people visit.

Mexico is what it is. There are great areas, dangerous areas, amazingly rich areas, absurdly poor areas and corruption is all about. I’m not a fan of the resort areas, but most people have a fun and safe time there. It’s not my style but a lot of people love it.

That doesn’t mean there are no risks, that you’re safe with no chance of criminal activity affecting you, or that you can trust everyone there, but odds are in your favor of a fine time.

Use common sense, don’t look like a target/easy prey, be aware of your surroundings, learn the bad areas and avoid them and just be as smart as possible while there. I wouldn’t go party and get drunk in the USA, but I certainly wouldn’t do it there.

Yes, that's how I remember it. Well it's grown into multiple parks, 2 huge luxury resort hotels.

It's quite amazing. Even the XCaret original park is much larger.

They start the names of the parks with X, but you get the idea. They have XPlor an adventure park, Xenses (kind of a surreal type adventure), Xavage an extreme adventure park, and lots more. Check it out.

We are in a room that you can jump into the river from our room.

Sounds like a fun trip. I've had some good fun and adventures in Mexico. Most of my time was spent south of Playa in Akumal and Tulum.

The food was always amazing.

You will not have any problems on the resort. If you leave just be aware of your surroundings. We had a car and didn't have any real issues traveling around those areas. Just have to be smart and aware if you leave the resort.

They do run whale shark trips out of Playa or Cancun I can't remember which but that's a summer thing. Great experience if you are ever there in the summer.

The Mayan ruins are interesting. I've done them with a tour guide and without. The first time is interesting to go with a tour guide if you get a good one.

All of my food recommendations would be south of you in Akumal.

We won’t be leaving the resort. Or the parks I guess I should say. There is so much included and people have said you could spend an entire week just exploring the resort. The food is also supposed to be amazing for an all inclusive. There are tons of restaurants, and we can go to restaurants at both sides of the resort.
