Wife and I are discussing the shutdown and it's effects on govt. payments.
My question is , does the govt. put $$ into the SS system every month or is it a given that the first of the fiscal year the required amount is in until the next fiscal year??

sigmonkeySS payments are mandatory spending and separately funded, so no concern for monthly payment.

Fed161The shutdown will not affect anyone's SS checks. SS employees (what few there are left) are considered essential and are continuing to work without pay. The Treasury folks who are responsible for issuing the checks are also sill working, also without pay. You have nothing to worry about. at least for now. (see below).

egregoreI got my payment (direct deposit) with no problem, a week
earlier than expected, actually. The only holdup or delay I know of is with the COLA (cost of living adjustment, typically ~2.5% a year, around this time of year). Given the media's propensity to spread FUD (fear, uncertainty & doubt), even that is dubious.

PHPaulThankfully, the same "mandatory spending" applies to military pensions.
I was sweating bullets until I looked it up, SS and my pension are our only sources of income.

LunaseeI have been receiving my SS check on the second Wednesday of every month for 10 years.
Since DOGE visited the SSA, my check is being deposited into my account on the second Monday of every month.
Not complaining,just curious.
