Or the cousin expression “wonder nine”.
"Hand Cannon" is another one I haven't heard in a while, thankfully.
I have a few of those. . . . Smile

Wanna come shoot my 329? I've got some full power loads that will make you reconsider it needs to stay in the vocabulary

One that I wish would go the way of the dinosaur is “45 Long Colt” when the proper term is “.45 Colt”.

Can I bring my .50AE, .45Mag, and .500Mag guns? The .45-70 BFR might be a bit much.

Ahh, I thought of another. "Banana clip" referring to a curved detachable box magazine of larger capacity. 'Tis neither a fruit nor a clip.

Unless you are a Skynyrd fan, then you can hear it all the time.

“Pill” for bullet.
“Fodder” for ammunition.
“Eat” for function and fire (ammunition).

And now that I think about it for a bit, probably my favorite: “A solution in search of a problem.” Yes, that was clever when Jeff Cooper thought of it, but it got over being fresh and clever a long time ago. And most of the time when it’s used today, it can simply be translated as, “I don’t like anything new and different from what I’m used to.”
