Or anything else with a “y” at the end, like “Remmy” for Remington.

I too despise cutesy firearms slang - with shotty being the most annoying. I can't envision the late Gen. Norman Schwarzkopf referring to his preferred weapon as a shotty.

Smart Gun.

Have heard that one in a while.
Doesn't New Jersey have a law in place that mandates only smart guns can be sold once there's a viable one on the market?

I think the term poodle shooter is hilarious. I don't use it around poodle owners...

Late last year I attended a training course at Rifles Only in Kingsville, TX. Jacob Bynum owns Rifles Only -- they work with military, LEO, contractors, and civilians. Our 4-day course followed a 7-day course for Marine snipers. One of the sniper instructors stayed on for our course. At times it felt like we might be in the military.

On the final day, we changed gears and played with dope for targets out to 1,000 yards. I had an AR15 with a 20" barrel. The other guys going long had a 308 KAC SR25 and a 6.5 Creedmoor JP AR10. I knew my rifle's exceptional accuracy would fall off beyond 800 yards at sea level, and so did Jacob Bynum. When it was my turn for the 800 yard plate, Jacob stated "Can that little poodle shooter even make to 800?" I said it just barely would. But only if pulled the trigger really hard, and pushed really hard on the buttstock with my shoulder.

Jacob was spotting for me, and he just laughed. The other two students had no clue what we were talking about.

Being a ‘gun guy’ many of these don’t cause me much angst, just a few.

I think you have to add the word ‘pasture’ to the poodle reference. To me it’s for ‘pasture poodles’, better known as prairie dogs.

I’ve heard the term ‘send it’ also used as an affirmative to a question. Seems like a millennial thing.

I’ve also given up on the mag/clip thing.

How about, ‘beware of the man with one gun, he likely knows how to use it’

"Fitment" applied to a gun. The word describes furniture on a ship.

I haven't heard "medicine" to refer to guns/cartridges/bullets for a while. Perhaps this was meant in the Native American sense of magic or power. Otherwise it makes no sense. If you shoot an animal, you aren't trying to make it feel better.

Another that seems to have fallen out of favor, i.e., not heard for some time, is "savvy nimrod."

I don’t get too worked up over most of these terms although “shotty” and “Remmy” make me very suspect of the speaker. I haven’t heard pea shooter in a while.

I was at our local range about a year or so ago (I try to avoid it) and there was one other guy there at the time. He was roughly 5'4" with a BMI somewhere north of 50. Prior to every shot he would yell "send it!". No doubt reliving his glory days in SEAL Team 6. Roll Eyes

Thread title, Gun Phrases that Have Disappeared, and I'm Grateful.

Unfortunately, using "fitment" when describing fitting of gun parts have not only not disappeared but is actually thriving. Even many business websites use it incorrectly. I'd say, the incorrect use of this term annoys the hell out of me.

I never heard that phrase, so I used the google and found a definition for it.

'Platform' and 'weapon system' when referring to a rifle or hand gun.

A 'weapons platform' is a ship, boat, airplane, tank, armored vehicle etc.

A 'weapon system' is a complete, integrated unit comprising everything necessary to transport, maintain, load, aim, fire, and reload and analyze the use of a particular type of weapon. Not the individual weapon itself.
