Gun Phrases that Have Disappeared, and I'm Grateful
I especially don't care for remmy, mossy, and shotty.

It doesn't matter. When one irritating phrase goes away, another comes up. And honestly, gun people are pretty cranky about terminology. I hope I've heard my last rant about magazines being called "clips."

That term has been replaced with “yeet cannon.” I find it comical, but it will also get old eventually.

Carry a big heavy gun like a pig or a SAW or even just the AR10/SR 25 or M14, and you’ll know why it’s called a poodle shooter. Got no issue with that whatsoever. And I love dogs.

I don't get it, and I carried a SAW for a very brief period of time.

lol- Ok … you don’t get it. Maybe the SAW is just too light - lol

Pick up at 6 1/2 pound AR and compare it to a 11+ pound anything else…

It wasn't labeled "poodle shooter" because of the weight of the AR15/M16 compared to other rifles.

It stemmed from Jeff Cooper's belief that .223/5.56, which he viewed as a varmint round, wasn't useful on anything larger than a dog.

It was about the caliber and its perceived power, not the rifle and its weight.

It had nothing to do with the weight of the AR15/M16 compared to its heavier brethren rifles.

It stemmed from Jeff Cooper's belief that the small .223/5.56 round wasn't useful on anything larger than a poodle.

Understand the origin of the phrase… it morphed in my world Because we know it works on more than poodles… Wink

My youngest daughter and I rescued two cats, we named them Remington and Winchester, but the are usually called Rem and Chester. No Remmy used that I ever heard.

I can think of a lot of phrases I'd like laid to rest - "knockdown power" and "Two World Wars" for starters.

I cringe when I read a review about a new gun and the word furniture is used to refer to the stock or other wood parts.

Total elitist BS

i actually have a sentimental spot for that phrase. had a company commander who used to recite the following three phrases (somewhat metaphorically):

keep your powder dry : weapons and equipment in good condition / ready for action
seek the high ground : seek beneficial terrain to dictate the terms of engagement
move to the sound of the guns : seek the initiative / in the absence of orders -- ATTACK

but yes in the modern age its kinda out of place since virtually all ammunition is quite weather resistant

I only heard it from leftist gun control freaks till they figured it out it has its roots in incredibly racists terms so even the gun control idiots dropped it. For years now if I ever heard someone use it in terms of gun control I stop then and call them out for their racism. Has stopped a couple of people cold when you call a leftist a racist for their gun control beliefs. That’s when I usually drop on them that gun control laws were generally originally enacted to disarm blacks. Ever see a leftist just get absolutely flummoxed to the point they walk away ? It’s great fun

I never seem to hear the expression, "hair trigger" any more. Is it still a thing, especially in this day of striker-fired weapons?

Probably the only one that I hate, that is unfortunately still in use, is using the word run or running instead of using.
