Either he really had a change of heart in the last year, and thinks peace (or at least a calmer coexistence) with the south is the way to go, or he's playing everyone while he gets ready to do something else.
It's going to be one or the other. I wouldn't exactly say we can trust Kim. But, I have a feeling that Trump might have made him see the light and put the fear of death in him.

BillyBonesNYMy guess, trump is negotiating tariffs with China in exchange for their influence on N Korea.
I'd bet on that!

Yes, I made it up. But hey, all words are made up at some point.
LOL I did the same thing as Georgeair.
I'm actually happier to find out you made up the word! Consider it stolen.

Patton's "Grab them by the nose and kick them in the pants" springs to mind. Trump applied pressure to Kim in multiple ways, and I would absolutely bet that telling China that they needed to get on board was part of it. Between the bluster on twitter and the talks with every country surrounding Nork, he backed Kim into the wall. "Put up or shut up" was the tone, and Kim couldn't put up.
I still give President Trump all the credit. China wouldn't have any reason not to tell Kim to quit his yapping otherwise. However he did it, HE did it.

SigmanicI would add to all of the above comments that there have probably been some pretty good terms (read: favorable to Rocket Man personally) negotiated via back channels. Perhaps he's more of a pragmatist than anyone knew? Perhaps he's learned from the history of Gadaffi and Hussein?
In the end maybe Trump will be given a Noble Prize? Ha-ha-ha....just kidding, he's to steeped in reality to ever get one of those! Make-believe is not his strong suit.

Skull LeaderI feel that now is not the time for the President to gloat if this thing pans out. Kim needs to feel like this was his idea. That's just the kind of person he is. Trump just needs to sit back and let everything run it's course and not interfere as long as Kim keeps these promises.

SkyOtterMy more tinfoiled side thinks that Kim is either:
1. Expecting to reap a big payoff that has been promised under the table, or
2. Get us to lower our guard so we're slow to respond when he launches the EMP's from freighters off our coast.

Maybe he will establish a Trump Prize and hope that some on the Nobel committee will eventually earn one.
Given the low esteem those guys have managed to fall to, I doubt he cares about it.
In the meantime, however he did it he has apparently made the offer they can’t refuse.

When you had the votes, we did things your way. Now, we have the votes and you will be doing things our way. This lesson in political reality from Lyndon B. Johnson
"Some things are apparent. Where government moves in, community retreats, civil society disintegrates and our ability to control our own destiny atrophies. The result is: families under siege; war in the streets; unapologetic expropriation of property; the precipitous decline of the rule of law; the rapid rise of corruption; the loss of civility and the triumph of deceit. The result is a debased, debauched culture which finds moral depravity entertaining and virtue contemptible." - Justice Janice Rogers Brown April 27, 2018, 07:31 PM

rburgMore than likely, Rocket Man has realized the big prize is to get the US to remove all nukes from SK. Then it will be de-nuclearized. Has nothing to do with NKs experimental toys. Lets see, we used to have them in several countries. Well, maybe not officially. No we've lost most of those locations. SK would be foolish to have us remove ours, or at least until the NK threat has ended. But I don't see them allowing inspections to be sure.
Its just a chess move. They say they don't have any and win a big diplomatic victory. We then must remove ours or we're the bad guys. Guess who wins that round.
