We went out to lunch over in Milford, OH, and along Round Bottom Road, there he was. This time flying.. Once you've seen one the next ones become easy. He could have been dive bombing P220s house for all I know. Pretty interesting to see. Unhappy ammo seeker

I missed him. The closest I have seen a Bald Eagle was at Grand Valley, the abandoned gravel pits in Camp Dennison, across from The Schoolhouse Restaurant. It was pretty cool seeing one in person. Did you eat at Ethel's Tavern? Niech Zyje P-220 Steve

No, we went to Roy's. I didn't even know Ethyls served food other than beer. I didn't realize how distinctive they were, sitting or flying. The white really stands out. Unhappy ammo seeker

Too old to run, too mean to quit! |
Yes, they are magnificent birds! We have a family of them at our place on the Lower Potomac. They have been nesting there for at least 5 years. We get to see them "fishing" too. Elk isn't kidding. Any time y'all want to go Baldie spotting, feel free to come out to the greater Chesapeake region. We see plenty of them up an down the mainland here, but the Delmarva Peninsula is littered with them - almost like pigeons. I know a couple places where I can routinely go and see them by the dozen. (No joke - my biggest count in a single day was well over 20.) Nesting season is pretty active and watching the juveniles fledge is a hoot. They're pretty awesome birds. -Rob I predict that there will be many suggestions and statements about the law made here, and some of them will be spectacularly wrong. - jhe888 A=A

Yeah, but they kind of lose their majestic image after you've seen them dumpster diving in the Burger King parking lot in Ketchikan. My daughter can deflate your daughter's soccer ball.

We go out in the winter to look for them. Huge and beautiful. I never knew they would eat other birds but they will.

We see them nearly daily around here and that's without actively looking for them. I was doing some shore fishing this spring at our lake place. We didn't have a dock yet just a bench on the shoreline. I was catching and releasing Bluegills. I hooked one kind of deep and wasn't sure he would make it but I got the hook out and put him gently back in the water to give him the chance. Ten minutes later I seen him floating about 25 yards out. The wind was blowing in slightly so I thought I would stick around and see if he came close enough to retrieve him out of the water and put him in the neighbors garden or something for fertilizer. I hate to waste a life even a fish. So now he's about 10 yards off the shoreline. A few more minutes and he should be close enough to snag him with my rod. So I take a seat on the bench and reach down to grab a beer from the cooler when I hear this huge splash! Scared the crap out of me it was so close. Looked up and seen a bald eagle had swooped in for a free meal. He must have came down in a straight dive because he hit the water pretty hard. I've seen enough eagles that it's really no big deal anymore but to see that big bird wing spread on top of the water was a sight to see for sure. I swear he looked right at me as if to say "Sorry dude but eagles gotta eat too"! "Fixed fortifications are monuments to mans stupidity" - George S. Patton

I'm fortunate to have two that I can watch while looking out the window when I'm eating dinner. I have learned that heat and rain doesn't seem to bother them. They will perch on a tree branch for hours on end in 90 degree weather and I have watched them do the same in a torrential downpour that lasted over 2 hours. This is a terrible cell phone picture out my window and probably 200 feet away. It’s almost a where Waldo shot.

Too soon old, too late smart |
We don’t see many here, but the one I did see was standing on the ground between the freeway and the feeder road near the entrance to the freeway. He did not seem intimidated by the noisy traffic passing within fifteen feet of him. There was no white on his/her head, but was the largest bird I’d ever seen. I envy you guys who regularly get to see them.

They have no reservations about becoming scavengers. I see them on the roadside along with the crows and turkey buzzards hitting on a deer carcass. I always move to the other lane because they are not near as adept in avoiding traffic as the crows who have developed it into a art form. I've seen eagles fly into oncoming traffic when they get spooked off a carcass. Takes them awhile to take flight from the ground. I had one swoop directly in front of my truck years ago getting to road kill in the median. To this day I wonder how I didn't hit that bird. Never had a chance to touch the brake I never seen him coming. Looked in my mirror and he was just landing on his free meal. "Fixed fortifications are monuments to mans stupidity" - George S.
