So as the title says, I did some mods to the Taco. She now sits about 2.25” higher. Bilstein 6112/5100 lift. Added a TRD Pro skid plate, and a Whelen powered air horn (PAP112). Slider bars are ordered but are still five weeks out. I am quite pleased with the outcome. Here are a few pics and a video of the glorious horn.

I installed a pair of horns from a '70s Land Cruiser (FJ-40). They are the traditional horns that all old cars had, real horns, high and low, and plenty of sound without blasting. They sound like a real horn should, only much louder than the weaklings used in modern vehicles.

Henry, I would have liked the old school horns powered by air, but I like the specific sound the Whelen makes. It’s the universal “Get out if the way” sound. Plus the PA is pretty great. I imagine it’ll be most useful at the stoplight with some kid texting, and having the ability to say “please stop texting and start driving”.

I'm lovin' it!

"Some things are apparent. Where government moves in, community retreats, civil society disintegrates and our ability to control our own destiny atrophies. The result is: families under siege; war in the streets; unapologetic expropriation of property; the precipitous decline of the rule of law; the rapid rise of corruption; the loss of civility and the triumph of deceit. The result is a debased, debauched culture which finds moral depravity entertaining and virtue contemptible."

Nice work, looks great. I’m planning to do the same suspension upgrades to my 2011 Tacoma. Thanks for the motivation to get it done.

Also curious about the sliders. I have a '20 TRD Pro I'm modding. Here's my list so far:

  • CBI Bed Rack (done)
  • Prinsu Roof Rack (done)
  • Thule bike rack mounted to side of bed rack (done)
  • Bud-Built Sliders (done) - I had a couple others I was looking at, RCI at the top of the list, but the shipping offset having Bud Built install them for me, plus I got to go skiing at Sugar Mountain NC that day
  • Heretic Studios Light Bar (on roof rack) (done)
  • Heretic Studios Ditch Lights (in process)
  • Reverse lights (pending)
  • In-cab OEM-style switches for above and more (in process)
  • Under-hood Bussman fuse and relay panel (in process)
  • On-Board Air (probably ARB dual, debating mounting under hood on passenger side or in the bed's cubby) (in design)
  • Longer term might include front winch bumper (either Victory or C4, as they require minimal bumper trim), rear bumper with mount points for gas & spare, under armor
  • Contemplating Icon rear springs to level it out if it sags too much from the mods, although I don't plan on lifting it at this time
  • Also contemplating roof-top tent (would ride on the bed rack)

OP, where are you located? You may want to go to an Overland Expo if you're near one. On the other hand, neither your wife/ significant other nor your wallet will appreciate that.

Feel free to ping me if you want to bounce ideas off of each other.

I also like the Quicksand color. Although I like my Army Green more....

I have a charcoal grey 2016 TRD and I am thinking about adding the Shrockworks brush guard and skid plate. Would really like to be able to drive Reddington Pass without worrying about ripping the underbody off.

Nice job and I like the color.

Think tube-step that you'd use to climb in and out of the truck, but make it beefier, beefy enough to actually slide across rocks bearing the full weight of the truck. Hence, "slider".

Looks great!

I want a set of train horns in my Jeep.

I have a leveling kit sitting on the shelf I haven't had a chance to put on yet.

I was going to buy some new (1" bigger and meaner looking) tires, but the wife told me I was buying a closet system...so, to ensure domestic tranquility, we have a closet system now lol...to be fair, my current tires probably have 30,000 miles on them still. Want vs need.

Looks good my friend.
I was actually a little busy like you this week.
I dumped my Bilstein 5100s for Fox 2.0s and BDS UCAs. I gained 1” over the Bilsteins. I had a slight rake before and now I sit pretty much level. I may dial them down a half inch.

I still have Bilstein 4600s on 2” Readylift spacers on the rear.
Sadly Fox does not make a rear kit for my Expedition. I used F150 fronts.
ICON makes a kit for mine but at a little over 1k per corner.

These Foxes are so nice I am going to have to get the ICONs for the rear so I can loose the spacer.
They generally have 20% for Black Friday so I am saving up.

Rock slider steps are next. But have to get them custom. Already have RCI skid plates.

A buddy helped and he ordered a lift kit for his Ram Rebel the other day and my other buddy is getting ready to go balls out on his 4Runner and do a King lift, ARB bumpers, and skid plates.

Just as an FYI RCI Off-road is having a 15% off tax time sale.
https://rcimetalworks.com/
It was 20% off last year when I got my skid plates. But 15% is still nice.

I went with Demello Off Road’s Dominator Sliders. I liked their old X-wing sliders, but since those aren’t made for the Taco, I went with the Dominator. They are pretty much the same thing. I also like that they’ll act as a functional step for Mrs. Cooker, who is barely over 5’, and has struggles getting in and out of the Taco now.

Sure wish someone made a bolt on set of sliders for the Expedition.

I found these universal sliders that look pretty good but Chassis Unlimited no longer lists them on their site and this eBay auction is dead.
https://rover.ebay.com/rover/0...2Fitm%2F152746407162

I have the cad like drawing from Chassis Unlimited that I may be able to have local fabricator make something similar. Once I get the money I’ll see if Chassis Unlimited is still doing them.

I would do the bed cubby for lower temperatures than under the hood.
