I read that Nixon once asked J Edgar to get his guys inside the Watergate Hotel to get some info he could use against his opponent in the election. J Edgar told him to fuck off. Maybe different terminology but he wouldn't consent to it.

The FBI is a politicized state security apparatus that sometime does real police work.

We used to call them, the “First Bunch of Idiots” followed by the Second Bunch of Idiots(SBI-State Bureau of Investigation) when I worked in NC.

They must pay really well. I can't imagine anyone wanting to work for them, other than the fact that you just about can't get fired for doing a bad job or being corrupt. How do they get new recruits?

Absolutely legendary PR and media fawning.

J. Edgar Hoover was absolute crap at many things. Branding, and seizing opportunities to expand his-- er, i mean, the Bureau's-- cultural and political "lock" on the country was what he actually did right. When he took over the BI, it was a tiny, corruption-packed patronage pit that lacked arrest authority or the ability to carry firearms, and had authority to investigate violations of only around ten (10!) statutes.

Legends and myths die hard.

Oh, I'm sure it's sold as a great career and huge honor to make it through the selection and then training processes. It's just that I can't see anyone who has the law enforcement calling in them wanting to become a political enforcement agent of the Deep State. And you have to have some brains to get into the FBI, which means you have to know what its current state of affairs is.

Jury finds 2 men not guilty in Whitmer kidnap case; Hung/unable to reach verdicts on 2 others

Grand Rapids — Jurors Friday acquitted two men Friday accused of plotting to kidnap Michigan Gov. Gretchen Whitmer and deadlocked on charges against the two alleged ringleaders, delivering a staggering blow to the government in one of the largest domestic terrorism cases in recent U.S. history.

Chief U.S. District Robert Jonker declared a mistrial on kidnapping conspiracy charges against accused ringleaders Adam Fox, 38, of Potterville and Barry Croft, 46, of Delaware. Accused plotters Daniel Harris 24 and Brandon Caserta, 34, of Canton Township, were being freed Friday afternoon after nearly two years behind bars.

Yeah, that's kind of funny. The media here in Michigan led us to believe that a guilty verdict was a foregone conclusion.

Pretty sure Whitmer was planning to use their convictions as grist for her reelection campaign.
Other BS she has recently pulled off to dim everyone's memory of her Covid tyranny:
Gave everyone 400 bucks as a refund on Michigans outrageously expensive no fault insurance.
Shut up about closing the Line Five pipeline.
Made a lot of noise about abortion rights.
Now claiming she is going to fix our roads, which was one of her main election campaign promises.
My guess is the big cities in the Lower Peninsula will reelect her. Roll Eyes

Sadly, you are probably correct Frown

Isn't just the big cities, anymore, though. My county used to be pretty solidly red. Now it's at least purple, if not marginally blue <smh>

Cheer up guys, maybe her husband will try to pull some strings to get their boat in the water early again.

Or how about a feeb sniper shooting a woman nursing a baby? North Idaho, several years ago (20+) when they were trying to force the woman's husband to go under cover and infiltrate a group nearby. He wouldn't do it, and they proceeded to try other tactics. I know exactly what happened because I spent 2 weeks running the Colorado River (Grand Canyon) with several (9?) Idaho State Police officers who were on the scene when it happened.

And no punitive/disciplinary action took place.

Ruby Ridge was 30 years ago. 1992. Not saying that your recollection of what the Idaho State Police told you xx years ago is false.

But this is a pretty well documented incident.

My point is...the FBI wasn't there because of sawed off shotgun. This was originally an ATF investigation. Weaver not showing up for court dates resulted in a Deputy US Marshal being killed along with a 14 year old boy.

Sadly, the FBI, and they know it, ultimately are answerable to nobody.

The point is that the FBI shot and killed a nursing mother, who had played no part in the whole mess.
