American pop also got absorbed into country, where it has no business being.

I saw one of those acts, called NCT 127 or something like that, yesterday on the Today show . (Not by choice, I was a guest in a home and that's what they were watching.) Not my personal taste (which runs more hard rock/metal), but not awful, either. The dancing was well executed.

Certainly- it's not demeaning to women, has no offensive language, no glorification of law-breaking and being a criminal, no hatred or even mention of the police. There's nothing redeeming about rap music.

Nothing scientific or, proof but, American pop music has got to be struggling with an identity crises of sorts. The music industry has gone all in with rap/hip-hop, trying to 'celebrate the street' and understanding 'the hood', meanwhile the R&B genre has completely disappeared, rock/metal, country and folk live in their own isolated bubbles. Some of what passes as rap/hip-hop is ok, however the vast majority is awful and not very creative, clever or, artistic in any way. Europe has jumped-in and tried to emulate this along with elevating them to 'cross-over' and 'colabs' with various fashion brands. The sneaker-head culture is a direct result of celebraties elevating athletic clothing to fashion. Go to Europe and the kids have been dressing with sagging pants, ball caps, and trying to dreadlock their hair with bleached tips.

Meanwhile, Asia has pumped-out these pop singing groups within the K-pop and J-pop genres while selling out concerts all over the US. Psy cracked the door open and I think BTS was the first time I had ever heard a non-English speaking singers blow-up in the US. I have a handful of nieces in St.Louis who are bananas for BTS, they could care less about rap/hip-hop, outside of Billie Elish, there's not much interest in US music from a pop stand point. All the dance competition shows are dominated by US born-Asian kids (Jabbawockeez), some of the hosts are still in disbelief that here's a bunch of non-hood kids dancing the pants off of the black and latin kids, who are super athletic but, can't coordinate and be in synch with each other.

I don't know about pop but I wonder where Rock went?
I recently was looking over the Billboard Top 100 and kept going back and back and back in years to find anything.
Nothing.
I know it's still being played but by older musicians for the most part.
Too bad for the kids today as they are really missing out. Frown

Music is pretty much dead. I listen to the oldies channel but after hearing those songs for the millionth time they get "old". Pretty much listen to good talk radio more than anything else nowadays.
