PETA is asking an Idaho town to rename Chicken Dinner Road Login/Join

Is Idado experiencing a migration from California?? I vote for Chicken Little Avenue. Here is the story:

CALDWELL, Idaho — People for the Ethical Treatment of Animals is asking Caldwell Mayor Garret L. Nancolas to rename Chicken Dinner Road on behalf of the namesake poultry, according to KBOI.

“We’re not trying to ruffle any feathers, but words matter and have the power to change lives, both human and nonhuman,” Tracy Reiman, PETA executive vice president said in the letter. “Chickens are intelligent, sensitive animals who feel pain and empathy and form strong bonds with one another, and they shouldn’t be considered “dinner.”

The road’s name apparently has a storied history, involving Governor C. Ben Ross and a dinner invitation, according to the Idaho Press.

“PETA is asking Mayor Nancolas to change this road’s name to one that celebrates chickens as individuals, not as beings to kill, chop up, and label as ‘dinner,'” the letter said.

No response to the request has yet been recorded.

by a matter of fortuitous timing, just last week I was with a group of friends who actually toured a winery on that road. A couple of their local wines were labeled "Chicken Dinner White" and "Chicken Dinner Red".

There is a historic component to the naming of the 'Chicken Dinner Road' but I can not recall the details.

PETA should try that with Chicken, Alaska. Originally the town name was to be ptarmigan, a member of the grouse family. However, nobody could agree on the spelling.

Myself, I would rename the road. “People Eating Tasty Animals” sounds good.

IMO, chickens have only 2 functions: egg layers and dinner. Geese, OTOH, can be guard dogs.

Why did the chicken cross the road?

Balzé, you need to stop being so close minded on this issue. They are good for breakfast, lunch, and snacks as well.

It’s all about the most basic of human desires: the quest for power, being in control and making others do what we want. Power is the ultimate drug, and once people have gained it in one way, they will continue to seek it.

In this case it starts as laudable efforts to prevent gratuitous cruelty to animals, but once that power has been achieved, it’s necessary to achieve the fix in other ways. Ultimately that quest for power will get to the point of being ridiculous and attempt to place the so-called “rights” of one animal (a chicken) above those of us humans who—like all animals—maintain our existence by eating other life forms.

We are seeing an epidemic of people who would normally be powerless achieving control over others in countless petty and often ludicrous ways these days, and why? Because (enough of) the rest of us grant it to them. I won’t cite any other specific examples lest that be taken as guilt of the supposed offenses being charged, but all we must do to see them is to open our eyes.

“ Enlightenment is man’s emergence from his self-imposed nonage. Nonage is the inability to use one’s own understanding without another’s guidance. This nonage is self-imposed if its cause lies not in lack of understanding but in indecision and lack of courage to use one’s own mind without another’s guidance.”
— Immanuel Kant

PETA will be asking for a legal ban on penicillin, hand soap, and Lysol. Bacteria are intelligent, sensitive organisms and they shouldn’t be killed so cold-heartedly. Never mind that penicillin can be used to treat a large number of diseases. </sarcasm off>
