Probably the only spin off from the original that I liked

Was not a fan of the Picard or Janeway shows - I didn’t feel that they had any characters that I liked - they were all very forgettable.

But I had forgotten how disappointed I was in how the series ended.

Still not as good as Deep Space Nine, but after they hired Manny Coto to take over the writing staff during Season 3 and UPN stopped making them do the Temporal Cold War stuff and just write good stuff, it took a serious upswing. The show ended at Terra Prime.

Was my favorite as well. I've tried to get back into DS9 once or twice, but it just doesn't hold my interest like it did the first time around.

I’ve tried to watch DS9 several times on Hulu. Not sure what was going on but the shows all seems to have a very pronounced background hum in every scene and every episode. It became just too annoying to listen to. My hearing is bad enough.

As for Picard - always thought he was a pompous ass.

Me, I liked Voyager better than any other of the spin offs.

When it first aired, it was on a local UHF channel

DS9 was hit the hardest in the Video to DVD conversion. Season 1 and 2 were probably the worst of all New Trek in video/sound quality. Most of those issues get better from Season 3 onwards.

I very much recommend the documentary "What You Left Behind" for DS9 starting points. DS9 was also the series that figured itself out the fastest towards the end of Season 1 with "Duet" and "In The Hands of the Prophets."

I became a rerun fan watching different characters in DS9. The entire Ferenghi social model is absolutely hilarious. Especially well developed was the Temple of Divine Profit and the Halls of Perpetual Destitution, aptly intertwined with their focus on enterprise and profit. At death the individual had to stand before the Grand Exchequer and review your life balance sheet. etc.
